Call of Duty WWII might be a return to the good old days of the series’ first few games, and there’s been a lot of people looking forward to its release, but that doesn’t mean COD can’t get stuck into a thoroughly modern controversy. Loot boxes and microtransactions have been thrown into the spotlight over the last few weeks, and COD has featured both for quite some time now. COD WWII takes this even further, letting you see other players open their loot boxes within the social space that the game introduces.
Further than that, you’re actually given a daily mission to watch others open up their boxes in return for some Social Score, as tweeted by GameSpot’s Edmond Tran.

Needless to say, it’s an attempt to get players more excited for loot boxes and the prospect of opening their own, which can in turn be seen as a way of pushing players to the game’s microtransactions.
We’re waiting for our copies of Call of Duty WWII to download, despite pre-loading on Xbox One, it’s not unlocked, and we’ve only just got PS4 code, so our reviews will take a little time.

Slightly off subject… I was getting pretty annoyed last night as Battlefield 1 now has a huge button/advert to pre-download Star Wars Battlefront on the main home menu where the ‘join multiplayer section’ normally is. It seems to appear randomly.
Seeming I’ve spent about £80 on BF if you include the Premium content, I don’t want to have a bloody advert on the home screen trying to get me to buy Star Wars Battlefront! If BF was a F2P game I downloaded, fair enough – but it’s not!!!
JR.
My copy arrived today. Looking forward to playing the campaign.
