Crysis Twitter account posts a mysterious message after three year hiatus – Crysis 4 or remaster inbound?

Here’s a turn up for the books. The official Crysis Twitter account has been dormant since December 2016 but it has now exited its hibernation with a mysterious message consisting of the words ‘Receiving Data’. We have no idea what this could be alluding to but the most likely scenario is a brand new Crysis title, or maybe we’ll see a remaster of the previous games? Given where we are right now when it comes to the switch over of console generations we could be seeing a new Crysis game that will either be a cross-generational release, or something that will help usher in the age of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Afterall, the original Crysis became a benchmark title when it came to tech usage on PC when it released, spawning the “Can it run Crysis?” meme.

The last Crysis title was Crysis 3 and that was released in 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Crysis 2 had come out two years prior to that and the original Crysis was released almost 13 years ago in 2007. Post Crysis 3 there was some talk and teasing of a new Crysis title that would be different from the first three games that focused on the main character Prophet, but that kind of dried up as Crytek moved onto other games like Warface, Ryse: Son of Rome, Robinson: The Journey and most recently the horror multiplayer title Hunt: Showdown.

In our Hunt Showdown review Jim wrote:

I’ll admit I wasn’t keen on Hunt: Showdown to start with, but after the first few matches I realised there’s something special here. This is an unusual entry in a genre ruled by far snappier shooters, and it takes time to get your head around Crytek’s clever twist on the formula. Stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a uniquely engrossing multiplayer experience.
