Gotham Knights Nightwing and Red Hood powers reveal could have a 4 player co-op surprise

WB Games Montreal are set to give a development update on Gotham Knights tomorrow, throwing Nightwing and Red Hood into the spotlight and revealing the two characters’ powers in the process. You’ll be able to catch the new “mission update” tomorrow, 10th May, at 6AM PT (4PM UK time), but what if there’s something a bit more exciting to announce? Like four player co-op?

While Gotham Knights has four playable characters, the game has only been confirmed and shown to have two player co-op so far, but that could be set to change, if the PlayStation Store is to believed. As spotted by an eagle-eyed Redditor, the store listing now proudly states that the game supports four player co-op, which would let you take on crime in much bigger teams than before.

Of course, that listing is going to state the largest player count possible in the game, and it’s entirely possible that Gotham Knights’ main campaign is geared toward solo and two player play, with select modes and raid-like missions allowing for four players to team up.

That would be particularly interesting given how the four characters have different abilities. Robin was shown to have a short-range teleport ability, while Batgirl can drop down on enemies and quickly take them out, but what will Nightwing and Red Hood bring to the table? They could compliment one another quite nicely.

Gotham Knights was revealed during August 2020’s DC FanDome event. It’s a new and original story set in the Batman universe after the death of everyone’s favourite billionaire that dresses up like a bat. His youthful protégés have to step up to fill the void, with players able to choose to play as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Red Hood.

Right alongside the game’s announcement, WB Games Montreal also showed off plenty of gameplay, featuring a Batgirl and Robin team up to fight Mr. Freeze and his goons in a fortress of ice created by a large weather machine. With four heroes to choose from, the game will also bring some co-op play to the table, though this will be limited to two player multiplayer.

While originally planned for a 2021 release date, Warner Bros. decided that their team needed more time to fully realise their vision for Gotham Knights, pushing the release back to 2022. Gotham Knights will now be coming out for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC on 25th October 2022.
