Overwatch 2’s latest new hero has been revealed, and that character is called Kiriko. This new character will be available to players that own the original Overwatch that own the Founders Pack, while new players will have see Kiriko as a reward the both the free and premium battle pass for Overwatch 2. When details of characters being locked on a battle pass was originally confirmed there was a backlash.
Activision Blizzard have gone on to explain the battle pass system and stressed that all players will be able earn new heroes on the free battle pass track. The company goes on to say, “Our goal is to make the game feel fair, enjoyable, and rewarding whether you choose to spend money on the Premium Battle Pass or not. Our team has worked hard to carefully craft not only the cosmetics you expect, but brand-new cosmetic types for the Overwatch universe like name cards, charms, and souvenirs, and some of these rewards will be available to everyone through the free track of the Battle Pass. “
The battle pass itself contains 80 tiers with 20 of those tiers containing free rewards, while the remaining 60 will be for those who have paid for the premium pass. Those who pay will also get instant access to any new heroes. Another new addition is Mythic skins which are a tier above Legendary skins. These new skins are customisable with the first being a Cyber Demon skin for Genji.
Overwatch 2 will also have a seasonal model which will change every nine weeks. The first season starts at launch and will grant three heroes, six new maps, over 30 skins, a new mythic skin, and a new game mode. The second season will start on December 6th with this adding a new Tank hero, a new map, a new battle pass, another thirty plus skins, and a new Mythic skin. Future seasons will add similar elements plus the PvE mode. Overwatch 2 will not feature loot boxes. These have been replaced by a virtual shop in which players can purchase exactly what they want using Overwatch Coins.
