I understand why Sony don’t give out dates for their AAA games, because when they invariably slip, the internet gets mad and people start tipping over magazine racks. Gran Turismo 5, though, should not only have a date set in stone but the bloody thing should be already out and in my hands. In fact, I should have already finished the damned thing and be looking forward to GT 6.
Sadly, though, that’s not the case, and whilst Forza 3 might satisfy me short-term, I’m looking to Polyphony to give its fans the best racing game ever created. Doing so, it seems, takes time, and although this time last year we were looking at a Christmas 2009 release, we’re now, according to a spokesperson overheard at GDC, looking at October 2010. Of course, things could change.
Despite Sony’s next big thing – 3D – being out in June, GT 5 is widely expected to be the poster child of what’s possible with the technology. With the firmware updating to the HDMI 1.4 profile being in the next few months (June 10th, remember?) the boffins at Polyphony will have had plenty of time to get their heads around the 3D space, if of course they haven’t already. I’d better get saving for a new TV.
