PS3 vs Xbox 360: The Games

So far in our PS3 vs Xbox 360 series we have looked at the music, video playback and the digital download capabilities for both consoles, comparing them and talking about what they could learn from each other.

Today and to wrap up the series, we are going to talk about something which really defines both consoles, their games.

While Microsoft only really own a few studios when compared to the Worldwide reach of Sony, they still somehow manage to match up in terms of quality games, with Alan Wake, Halo Reach and Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Conviction all blockbuster hits in the making.

Sony meanwhile have a wealth of amazing games on the horizon such as The Last Guardian, Grand Turismo 5, the obvious releases of Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 and also Agent from Rockstar, all of which could turn out to be amazing titles.

It is fair to say that Microsoft’s year hasn’t really started when it comes to exclusives yet, while Sony’s is already off to a great start. MAG was the first Sony exclusive to hit, this was then followed by Heavy Rain, which went down quite well, then of course God of War 3, which is without a doubt Sony’s biggest hit so far (although Nathan Drake may have something to say about that).

Finally you also have to consider that other than normal exclusive games, a new generation of timed exclusives may also come into play, especially on Xbox 360. This may influence some people, especially when they affect big titles such as Modern Warfare 2 and who knows what else in the future. So who knows, some future content or even a full game that you have been looking forward to, may be delayed before it is released on the other console.

Conclusion

Whatever console you choose for your gaming will come down to the exclusives and the style of game you wish to play. Sony and Microsoft do take a different approach. Sony prefer to innovate and take risks with new IPs, and usually this pays off for them. Microsoft meanwhile stick to the tried and tested formula, therefore it is usually shooters which are the order of the day, which of course appeals to a lot of people.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 do have plenty of game which appear both machines, so make your choice, and if you can’t – then buy both because you won’t regret it.
