The vehicular Survivors-like action of TerraTech Legion has a release date, as Mythwright and Payload Studios confirm that the game will launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC on 30th April – it will be day one into Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass PC.
As has become fairly popular over the last couple years, this is a ‘bullet heaven’ spin-off to an existing game or series. TerraTech is a vehicle construction sandbox, in which you construct vehicles out of blocks and then do battle, while also building up a resource gathering aparatus. TerraTech Legion takes that blocky vehicle customisation and battling and then throws hordes of robot enemies at you.
In typical bullet heaven style, all you have to do is keep moving to evade any incoming attacks, while your vehicle will spew out attacks and abilities automatically. As you gather resources and XP, you’ll level up and earn new blocks and weapons with which to customise the build of your vehicle, changing how you play – are you a forward ramming truck, for example, or one that leads the hordes and fires backwards?
For the full game, there’s now a range of playable characters, each with a unique Tech vehicle to start, skill tree, unlocks and abilities. Between attempts, you’ll upgrade core components and unlock new possibilities for your next run.
We played the game last June, when it was still in relatively early development and with a lot of features still to be added and fleshed out. At that time, I said in our TerraTech Legion preview, “Of course, this is just a demo, so there’s plenty that’s missing and promised for the full release of TerraTech Legion. More starter vehicles, more biomes, more enemies and bosses, and an emerging metagame that taps into all the resources you can collect while playing. I’d also like to see more emphasis put on specialising down different weapon types and damage synergies, where it currently feels like I can be a bit too general with my choices. This is a solid starting point, though, a vehicle core which Payload Studios can bolt more ideas onto, and I’m keen to see more.”
