Rhapsody in Scarlet is all 1920s jazz and demon battles

Konami shared a first look at Rhapsody in Scarlet, a game that draws on 1920s Americana, jazz and monster battling for its inspirations.

Here’s a little trailer blurb for the setting:

New York City in the 1920s—a dazzling metropolis filled with the sound of jazz and the glow of soaring skyscrapers. While the city reveled in its glamour, an unseen conflict simmered among those who practiced magick in secret.

Arriving in New York to pursue a career as a jazz singer, the young magus Ellie soon finds herself caught in an unexpected incident. The encounter leads her to Ilya, leader of the Seekers, an elite organization of magi. Though the free-spirited Ellie and the serious-minded Ilya frequently clash, they gradually forge a strong bond as they investigate the schemes of a mysterious mafia organization. Their investigation draws them ever deeper into the city’s secrets, revealing a fateful battle that threatens the very balance of the world.

The game’s battles will make use of both magicks and summonable beasts for a flexible system that can adapt to your player preferences. The backdrop of 1920s New York brings authentically recreated architecture and buildings from the period, as well as Prohibition Era speakeasies as a key social space.

The game’s cast features Cherami Leigh and Akari Kito for the English and Japanese voices for protagonist Ellie Myers, while her friend Ilya Jones is played by Hannah Grace and Saori Onishi.
