EA have confirmed that a high definition version of the Wii’s NBA Jam will indeed be available on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Hurrah!
EA have also confirmed that these hi-def versions will only be available through a download code supplied with new copies of NBA Elite 11. Wait… what?
To clarify, EA Sports’ Jordan Edelstein had this to say to ESPN:
… for the PS3 and 360, we want people to try ‘Elite’. We feel like ‘NBA Elite 11’ is a great product and we want people to give it a chance and see all the changes we’re making.
So as a way to say thanks to these people, we are going to let them experience ‘Jam’. It’s not the full product, but it’s a good portion of it.
So EA finally release essentially a demo version of a game that people do want tied in with a game that people don’t want.
Thanks, EA. Thanks a whole bunch.

This sucks. really, really badly. Boo you EA, BOOOOOO!!!!
If you really want loads of people to buy NBA Elite then make it a) Really good b) Really cheap. Don’t bribe people, else they won’t have faith in it at all.
I also ‘like’ how its essentially only a demo version, whereas the Wii is getting the full NBA Jam. Nevermind I shall be a Wii owner before too long and then I’ll be able to not only play the proper NBA Jam but also FIFA Street bundled in to FIFA 11
In fact it does appear the Wii is getting lots of EASports loving

this is a business maneuver at its most calculated. how do you maximise profits for a mediocre game with correlating sales records? Jam in (geddit?) an exclusive, albeit glorified, demo of a better game to bolster that game’s sales and effectively destroy its resale value.
But then it’ll be interesting to see if this actually works for EA, because I can’t see it happening…

what is NBA Jam and what makes it so special? aren’t all EA sports games just a lame re-make of the previous years entry?

One of the funniest local multiplayer games ever.
Nothing to do with the EA annual franchises, of which NBA Elite will be the latest.
djhsecondnature
One of the funniest? Is it really bad? Or does it make a lot of jokes?

If you didn’t own a Megadrive you would’t understand

This is a brilliant sales technique! Now less people will buy the game! Bravo

Looks like it’ll be the same way with MOH. Dont want the game but do want MOH : Frontline.

i’m glad i’m not a fan of basketball games.

Surely if they are only releasing an extended demo they will release the full product for download eventually. If it is nearly done anyway, once Elite flops they might as well release what they know is going to sell!

yoda, is that you?

Sounds like you get access to the demo if you buy Elite. Then the full version of Jam will be on the store at a later point. So whats the problem? Or am i missing something?

“…will only be available through a download code supplied with new copies of NBA Elite 11…”

“So as a way to say thanks to these people, we are going to let them experience ‘Jam’. It’s not the full product, but it’s a good portion of it.”
Sounds like a demo to me.

Just so people aren’t confused, NBA Elite is NOT a new franchise, it is the new name for NBA Live. We don’t yet know if it’s crap. Tbh I always liked the NBA Live ganes
Raen
So basically you can get a hi-def demo version, but you can’t get the full version in hi-def?
nemesisND1derboy
Yup, basically… The wonders of marketing huh?

you could probably buy a SNES/Megadrive with 4 controllers and 4-way and NBA Jam for about half the price of NBA Elite…
