Halo HD: Remake This Year, Saber Powered

This isn’t the first time this rumour has surfaced (it’s not even the second) but yesterday Joystiq reported that the whispers are indeed true: there will be a remake of the first (and arguably the best) Halo game, and it’s due this year – November 15th, to be precise.  Yep, ten years to the day after Combat Evolved launched.

So who’s behind this HD revision, which is said to feature new ‘art assets’ alongside the original audio and updated controls?  New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, apparently, who are using something other than the recent Reach engine – it might even be the one they used for their last game, Timeshift, although we suspect 343 and Bungie might be slightly more involved.

Joystiq suggests that the game will run in 1080p and support 3D televisions, plus the ability to play the previously offline co-op over the internet.  If even half of all this is true we’ll be delighted, Halo is a brilliant game and deserves the relaunch – after all, if Prince of Persia can do it then we’re of the opinion this Xbox classic certainly can.

Now, where did I put my sniper rifle?

  1. Halo and a few more like PoP and Sly are very popular games series all of which i’ve never really warmed to. But fans of Halo are no doubt in for a treat with the HD remake.

  2. nothing will ever b as good as the original no matter how much better it is…(let that mess with your head)

    • i agree to a point, one good example is ratchet and clank which in my opinion the first was the best.
good to see some HD remakes for xbox, especially one as great as the original halo, looking forward to this.

  4. Cool Halo in hd. None of the games have even been as high as 720p yet.

  5. Around the same date as Uncharted 3 then yeah?

  6. So, seeing as I recently picked a 360 up, do I wait for this version or pick up the original?

    • Wait for this version.

    • Well it’s available for less than a £5 on Amazon, so if you wanted to give it a go now rather than waiting till later in the year you’ll hardly break the bank.

      • Yeah but it looks naff if you’re using a HD tv. Plus the Borders. THE BORDERS!

  7. Just seen this story on our favourite Turkish site, complete with the line about sniper rifles. I’m chuckling. :D

    • They are so original lol

      • They are quickly becoming my second favourite site.
        ;)

  8. Bring it to PS3 ;)

    • It won’t come to PS3 as MS own the rights to all of the current Halo games. But one can wish.;0)>

      • @All bring it comments

This is utter madness!? Bring it to pc oh wait it was already out on PC. Bring it to Mac.

  9. Mine mine mine mine mine.

  10. now this is a good way to earn some extra $$ on the Halo series… haven’t tried or seen anyone play the first halo…
do u think that it will have MP too?? or just SP??

    • I was wondering about that. I mean Halo didn’t have online (as Live didn’t exist yet), but given they may be remaking it in a new engine adding MP wouldn’t be a huge issue.
