Darren Waters’ famous blog from last February still has us wondering just what it was that he actually saw. “I was shown a trailer for a game not due out till 2009 but was sworn to absolute secrecy,” says Waters. “Apparently, Sony just wanted to give a glimpse of what the console will be capable of.” If the game is due this year and we’ve still not seen it, this could be a rather nice surprise at E3, especially if they can announce a very brief window for us eager fans to wait. “In fact, the game is such a secret that when I mentioned the game to Phil Harrison last week he was unsure at first whether even to admit the title existed. When I explained I had been shown it under strict Non Disclosure Agreement terms he looked relieved.”

It’s that damned NDA that’s preventing Waters from saying any more, but we can be sure of one thing: it’s not Heavy Rain and it’s not MAG, because as TSA member DrGoodier confirmed via a brief conversion on Twitter, the game still hasn’t been announced. It’s rare that a game can survive undetected under the rader for over a year, and if it’s as impressive as Waters seemed to think it was then surely it’s been in developement for some time before he saw it too. “I don’t mean to be a tease,” he said. “All I can say is that I was left speechless.” And then the money shot: “If the footage I was shown truly is “in game” then we could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion.”

We’re hoping that whatever this “BBC Game” is, we’ll find out at E3.

  1. Its gonna be Strictly Come Dancing, with a virtual Brucie, I know it!

  2. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010?
TNA iMPACT! 2 no? ok il leave now

  3. Reading between the lines a little it suggests to me that this is a small developer otherwise there would have been a leak by now, and it must be a developer with vast amounts of cash because a project on this sort of scale would surely cost vast amounts of money
So I suppose my question is, Is there a developer out there who are still relatively small but extremely talented and also has a wealthy bank account?

  4. If it truly hasn’t been announced I’m surprised Sony have kept it under lock and key for so long, because I didn’t think they knew how to do announcements, and just let everything leak out in dribs & drabs with no surprises.

    • Nah – looking forward to E3, there are some big announcements on the way ;)

  5. Sounds like a load of poo to me.

  6. Eastenders, the MMO

    • That would be epic. :)

    • lol

  7. Planet Earth.

    • Aye, Planet Earth: The Game.

  8. The Apprentice. The graphics apparently really capture Sugar’s little furry smug face.

Or maybe it’s a creating game whereby you are in charge of commissioning mediocre series’, countless re-runs and the newest DIY-Makeover-Renovation-Cooking show. The sh’*#er your programs the higer the points. Then you can spend your points on hiring overrated actors to star in your crap shows such as James Cordon, Matthew Horne, Barbara Windsor (or ANY Eastenders actor), Martin Shaw, that idiot from the highly overrated Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes.

    There. I’m done!!!

    • Additional features include setting TV liscences at ridiculous prices, after all who’s going to pay for all this tripe?

      Trophy List:

News Pro – Patronise half of your audience with smug newsreaders
Holy re-Run Batman – Show Del Boy and Rodney as Batman & Robin at least 5 times in one week.
Cheap As Cheaps – Value 500 pieces of household crap and sell at auction in 2 days
      ………..

  9. GTA style where you smack people for not having a TV license. That could be fun.

  10. There will be some red faces if this turns out to be a flop, and doesn’t leave anyone speechless, i mean this has some right hype to live up to!

  11. Doctor Who for sure

    • Thats just what i was thinking. Its BBC’s most prized longterm-running tv series and they’d be minted if it came to the video game industry…

      • It’s unlikely to be based on a TV programme though.

  12. I don’t even know if I believe this any more – are there really any titles like this in development which the Internet does not know about? Surely we would have heard something about this game from someone else; assuming some of the bigger sites were allowed to see it too. The only thing I can think of is the next Team Ico game, which will be a definite purchase for me when it is released (another 12 – 18 months, I suspect).

    • He wouldn’t have seen a Team Ico game without other people seeing it, and surely someone would have ‘leaked’ by now

      • Well, that’s why I’m sceptical over the whole thing – why have we not heard any hype at all from other trustworthy sources?! I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this just turned out to be vapourware, but I would gladly be proved wrong.

      • The implication in his blog is that it was a closed-door session at SCEE’s London office where he saw it, so maybe he was the only one there to witness it. Unless it’s something that none of us have heard anything about, which would make it all seem even more surprising, Team ICO are the most likely suspects. To have been kept secret for so long, it must surely be a first-party dev.

Perhaps the reason that only the BBC have seen it is because the devs didn’t trust any gaming journos to have the integrity of the TSA team, and were concerned that someone from the gaming press may have leaked it deliberately or through an inadvertent comment. :)

  13. If it’s mainly based on story telling and whatnot then surely it would likely be similar to Heavy Rain?

  14. Stephen Fry’s Incredible Adventure. I would buy that.

  15. HAZE 2. ?
