Sony are such teases. For as long as the rumours have been out they’ve said the same old response to anything they’d rather us not report on: “We don’t comment on rumour and speculation.” Well speculate and rumour on this. Leaked pictures from Qore’s next episode show (which was accidently uploaded this afternoon and was available for anyone to download) has shown what some (but not all) of us were expecting. The PSP GO!

At first we were asking whether this was real or fake?  When posed by the general public it’s a question that brings to mind certain women’s appendages. When asked in relation to video games it brings to mind a large number of attempts by the fans and attention seekers across the glorious inter-super-highway to try and fool, con and tease the games loving public for no apparent reason what so ever.

Regardless, these images were up on the latest Qore, which was seemingly accidently launched a few days early (and has now been taken down) and they’re real.  You can still see the important PSP GO! stuff below via YouTube though, where a Sony representative talks about (and shows) LittleBigPlanet and Jak and Daxter, plus mentions Metal Gear and Gran Turismo.  The secret’s out.

There’s also press shots of the PSP ‘out there’ which we’ll not directly host, but Eurogamer have them here.  The PSP GO will have a slide-up screen (which reveals a d-pad and analog nub) and will come in 8GB and 16GB versions.  Sony’s E3 conference has seemingly lost its biggest reveal, so unless they’ve got something amazing that hasn’t been leaked yet, we won’t be getting many surprises.  As for the guy that clicked ‘upload’ – well, we feel for you, we really do.

  1. Looks like the Mylo Com-2, but more ugly.
Think, the start/select button could of been the second analogue stick, and then the start/select buttons could of been above.

    • Yeh i agree. Why couldn’t they put a bloody second analogue stick on it. Is it really that hard!!!
And is it just me or does it look a tiny bit retro maybe? Not as slick as the psp 3000. Looks a bit…plasticy.
Does anybody know what im going on about???

      • Probably because it’s a prototype, but I agree with u.
Also, WTF about the 2nd analogue stick, I could swear that was everyone’s main (or one of the main) gripes. Are Sony really that ignorant?

  3. Not as pretty as I thought it would be.. I wonder if it will have a touch screen?

  4. I would defiantly get one of those!

    • Same … it looks much better in the press shots than in the pictures above (I thought it was green when I first saw it).

  5. Lack of a second analogue hurts it bad. Wasn’t that the biggest complaint about the PSP since it’s initial release?

  6. Erm, looks kinda fake :S
    May just be me tho

    • Why would SONY make a fake version of Qore to trick you into thinking this was the new PSP?

  7. Are you sure the episode’s gone? Just started downloading it 5 minutes ago. Well, maybe it’s gone now….

  8. It’s ugly. Hope it isn’t real.

  9. Uhh-ohhh, no second anologue stick :O

    • Yeah … much better pictures there – LOOKS INCREDIBLE :)

  11. Where’s Watchful? :D

This PSP looks like very nice closed, but pretty ugly when it’s open. I think it’s been designed primarily with media playback in mind, and with this Sony are competing with the iPod and the Zune as much as the DS. I think we’ll see music downloads on the PSN before long.

I’m guessing the Bluetooth support will mean you can control it with a Dualshock 3, so at least you might not have to rely on those awkwardly placed controls for GT Mobile.

    • We’ve sent him to China.

But it was playing Devils Advocate, not what he actually believed.

    • Good idea!

    • so the use of a dualshock 3 isn’t a pipe dream?

      and the PS3 headset?

    • Now back from China and digesting all the news. As cc_star says, the Devil’s Advocate article was why I didn’t think it would be a good idea for Sony to announce a new PSP at E3 for release in the Autumn. There was enough evidence to convince me that there would be an announcement about a new iteration of the PSP.

There’ll be a response from the Devil’s Advocate towards the end of the week once I’ve been able to sort fact from fiction.

  12. Boo to the non-standard USB mini B connector, that’s another USB port taken up or those who connect their PSP to the PS3/PC.
Just noticed, it’s the same connection as the X series Walkman, so no more extra cable for me :) , although, one for PC, one for PS3…
    I have good ideas sometimes.

    • I didn’t see a USB port i any of the pictures?!?!

  13. Shame it got leaked. So close to the conference too.
Someone is going to be in a lot of trouble!

    • Yeah I feel so sorry for the person that’s uploading the Qore video… but much more sorry for SONY. I hope they still have some huge announcements to make.

  14. Also, could the new Metal Gear Solid that he mentions is coming be the same as the one we’ve all been fannying around over for the past few days?

    • Presume so, yeah.

    • It would be the most obvious conclusion – MGS for PSP. Which is a good thing as there are so many great PS3 games coming out.

  15. Being called PSP Go, I’d expect this to launch as an additional product alongside the existing PSP and will have navigation software. I was saying to a friend of mine the other day that I expect the new one to have GPS and navigation software, and calling it a PSP Go makes it sound like a TomTom and doesn’t fit in with the Sony console 1,2,3… naming convention.
