Good morning shoppers! After last weeks frantic undercutting on the price of Modern Warfare 2, Sainsburys are now cutting the price of hardware by 20% which brings a 120gig PS3 slim to under two hundred quid. Sainsburys online has sold out of PS3 already but the larger stores are reported to still have stock. They are also offering 20% of a Wii console, but Xbox consoles are not reduced. The price from Sainsburys online also includes free next day delivery and 398 Nectar points, which is just enough to buy this weeks ‘heat’ magazine and a large bar of Cadburys Caramel. Yum.

It’s been like this for a week – no-one else seems to have copied them yet but there’s still time for a pre-Christmas price war

This happened last week as MW2 launched. Fairly sure it was for 1 week only so today is the last day (unless that was just the MW2 price)

I think you’re right – they told me in Sainsbury’s today that the offer finishes tonight. If anyone wants one, they better get their skates on!

It has been going a while, I bought one on Friday night when my YLoD came back on my 60Gb model a few minutes after spending over 3 hours fixing it. I got the last one in the Tamworth branch. I wouldn’t have been able to do that if it was £250, it was good timing on Sainsbury’s part really.
Need a USB hub though, especially if I’m going to leave a memory stick in to regularly backup my saved games…

My PS3 YLOD’D last night, and I now have my nice sparkly new slim courtesy of Sainsburys @ £199.99.
My local store had sold out, but Derby had some in stock so im sorted. Bit gutted that I cant simply “hot swap” the Hard Drives and have all my saved games transfer across. Gah.

Its also a shame with the backup that you can’t restore bought games to a different PS3 however I guess thats why you have the 5 download limit so you can restore them and it stops Piracy which is always a good thing.

Yeah, Ill have to redownload stuff too. At least its an excuse to not download the rubbish that I kept on the HDD just because I could
. Still flipping annoying tho, Ill have to download all my Warhawk expansions from the US store again.. assuming I can remember the username/password and email i made up LOL.

What is ridiculous is that a lot of the shops advertise that they have PS3’s under £200 when they don’t have them in stock. The customer goes to Sainsbury’s to get their PS3 realise there’s none in and come to GAME. By then the damage has already been done and they’ll normally say they’ll wait to get a PS3 from Sainsbury’s. Yeah like they’ll be in stock anytime soon!

Yeah its crazy, and good luck getting one of these I was lucky and only had to go to three sainsbury’s, I told my mate about it on sunday he tracked one down after ringing up six. None said they were expecting any more

Is there a step-by-step guide for migrating to a new PS3?

Theres a few guides on the net but its pretty simple. Did my Dads last night.
Just backup your current ps3 using the ps3 backup utility to an external HD. Sync your trophies on the old ps3.
Then on the Slim once its up and running just use the PS3 restore utility to restore your backup. Then sync your trophies back. (note trophy sync gives a few errors but just keep trying)
Note:- as I mentioned earlier any bought games or demos etc will not be restored to a different machine. Everything else will though from photots thru to your friends lists\ game saves.
Hope that helps a little.

It is indeed very easy. Basically you just need to transfer all your data so it is just like having a new hard drive. I bought a 320GB HDD, and it was installed and ready within a couple of hours.
The screws were a b**** though (mind you, my Dad (after I had spent around 30mins faling) did it within two minutes so I guess I am just useless).
There are plenty of in-depth guides on the web and probably some videos on Youtube. I will help if you are struggling, or you could just open a thread on the forum about it.

That is indeed a monster of a bargain. Top stuff Sainsbury’s. I picked up Guitar Hero World Tour with the guitar for my PS3 and handed over just £35 in there, and this was a while ago too. They do dish out the odd bargains and these price deductions seem to be more frequent now. Hopefully they#ll have AC2 at £25 or something.

Now that really is a brilliant price, no wonder they’re flying off the shelves.
