Ubisoft have just announced that the latest addition to the Prince of Persia series is in development and is scheduled to be released May 2010 for consoles and handhelds. The new instalment, called Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, follows on from the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time storyline.
Ubisoft also said that the game will feature many of the fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations.
It’s interesting to see they are doing handheld versions as well and I wonder if the new mechanics will improve the gameplay or simply be something extra to fiddle with and learn. The game’s release will coincide with Disney’s movie adaptation of The Sands of Time. For all future updates about the game, check out princeofpersiagame.com.

I’m probably in the minority, but I’d much prefer they worked on the current Prince of Persia. The stroy and specifically the ending were more interesting than anything I’d seen in the old PoP’s.

i’d have liked to see them continue with the new story they started with the last game, but i guess they wanted to tie it to the new movie which is based around the sands of time.

I mean, it’s hard to disagree when the newer prince was voiced by Nathan Drake…

Really? A Prince…of Persia? Who has an incredibly obvious American accent? And sounds like Nathan Drake and the guy from Assassin’s Creed? And with a terrible American sense of humour?
I know it’s just my opinion but it was an awful casting decision in my opinion.

I really like Nolan North… and his sense of humour.
But it is just your opinion. =)

I’m finding it very odd that they aren’t continuing with that plot, the Epilogue DLC ended with a partial cliffhanger, to me it’s a bit odd of Ubisoft to just abandon that.

I’d like to see this too the story was great but the gameplay and level was’nt that great, I would like to see a new prince of persia contintuing the story and introduce better gameplay similar to the Sands of the time

Having never played any of the other Prince Of Persia games, I’d defintely prefer it if it carried on from the last one, especially with the way it ended!!!

I can’t decide I this is a movie tie-in or an actual Prince of Persia game.

Given that the movie is also conveniently out in May next year, I’d err towards the more worrying conclusion.

So… they’re going to make a game based on a movie based on a game? Woah, this is heavy.

This is a shame. I liked the “Sands of Time” as a trilogy, not as a series.
I was under the impression the “Sands of Time” storyline started there, carried on in “The warrior within” and finished with “The Two Thrones”, which ended it nicely.
I think Ubisoft Montreal should finish the current storyline, which launched in 2008 with “The Prince of Persia”.
To be honest though, as long as it’s a fun game I won’t complain – I hope they keep the cell-shaded graphics from 2008’s game too, they suit the series well.

I’m in the same boat. I preferred the idea of “The Sands of Time” being a trilogy of the three games. I remember it making sense that way…although I do forget how the final game ended. Was the last game the one with the water sword or was that the first one? I really can’t remember…

The first thing that springs to mind is will this one drop to £17.99 10 days after release like the previous one did.

Hmmm, i dunno to be honest the new prince of persia was nice but, something about it just didnt do it for me, the only plus side was Nolan North hopefully they will keep him as the voice, replacing the guys who did the old princes voice.

The old princes voice was brilliant, I just don’t think Nolan North would fit in

There’s nothing in the press release about the developer.
So hopefully this is being made by someone outside Ubisoft Montreal because hopefully they’re working on the next part in the series they started last year.
I really enjoyed the last one so was really looking forward to another to continue the storyline.

Ubisoft better be putting a little bit of Assassins Creed into this. With the sequel they got so many things perfect it is easy to see what the climbing and combat system can do to revitalise the series. Prince of Persia + Assassins Creed = Great gameplay without the stealth. Kill everything and Climb Everything.

I hope the art style is the same as the last one. It looked gorgeous…

Good news. Sands of Time is the only PoP I really enjoyed, therefore I am glad it is continueing with that storyline and hopefully the gameplay will be more like Sands of Time, as I hope the visuals will be.
The newest PoP did not impress me when I got it on PS3. The visuals were pretty edgy , glitchy but arguably, occasionally lovely (I usually like cel-shaded art styles, but Ubisoft could have done better in my view). Also, it was painfully easy and the storyline and general feel that came with the gameplay and level structure felt un-PoP-ish (new word;)) and not as enjoyable. The easy trophies it coughed up from the word GO were welcomed with open arms though of course.
Hopefully a return to form for the series with this new upcoming PoP.

You think it will be cell shaded like PoP on PS3 was? That was main selling point for me
