Dead Space fans looking forward to the second in the series might have something in the midterm to tide them over, according to a report over at Kotaku.
Surveys are doing the rounds that point to a HD port of the Wii’s Dead Space: Extraction, an on-rails shooter set in the Dead Space canon that was a commercial “misfire”.
The survey suggests that any port of the game would feature the same on-rails “guided first-person experience” gameplay and is being pitched at $15.
Additionally, a new title known as Planet Cracker is teased. Planet Cracker is a resource strategy game where you manage a mining operation on a planet and defend your ore from Space Pirates.
Planet Cracker is supposedly set within the Dead Space 2 universe.

A HD Port of Extraction sounds interesting, I just hope it isn’t the same team at Visceral who are porting it, I would prefer them to focus their efforts on Dead Space 2.

Great, I love the Dead Space story and Universe as a whole. and Extraction will add to that, I know the game isn’t as fantastic as Dead Space is, but if the price is right, like mentioned in the article then so what

I didn’t think it was too bad, it was what it was. It was fairly clear it didn’t have the production values of Dead Space though, with some rather iffy scripting and acting. It was good to see another perspective on everything kicking off on the Ishimura though, and I thought they did a great job of integrating the locations between the two.
I just hope they do another film to accompany Dead Space 2 when that is released.

Wouldn’t this require some kind of light gun accessory? I mean, so far the absolute strongest point of the wii-mote has been its pointing capability, do we know if the arc has the same function?

I think this is intended for the Arc controller. Arc is more accurate than a Wii-mote, so it should be a better experience.

Ah, i was going to dismiss this cause of the on rails aspect but maybe it’d be good with the arc.

Arc is more accurate at motion sensitivity butthe wii-mote’s infra-red pointer is a totally separate function and we don’t know how the arc will compare.

Looking at the jpn preview of resident evil 5 alternate edition, It should work well with arc also. Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfR5ctyw6LU (fast forward to about 2:50)

Thats another franchise moving over to PS3/360 in advance of motion controls. At least Nintendo will get to keep hold of Mario, Zelda and Metroid

Dead Space was only on PS3/360, so if anything the franchise moved over to them

Yup, I picked up Dead Space a month ago and only started playing it last night. I’m hooked and I’m not even past the first chapter

By the time this is ready the release would fall nicely inline with the release of Arc.

Is this worth playing for the story or can it be largely ignored before DS2 comes out.

Wasn’t the Ishimura a Planet Cracker?
Hence the connection with the universe.

Sounds interesting, good to see they’re expanding the universe.
But Dead Space 2 is worrying me. It seems to be going too action focussed, like Resi 5. They should learn from that. There hasn’t been a decent survival horror since, well Dead Space. So they should keep it that way. Scary good, big action fights, bad!

the best bits for me were when nothing was happening! sounds odd but its true. the dread of whats around the next corner, the bangs in the distance, the sound of something crawling along a wall. just amazing. action sequence after action sequence would spolie the immersion for me

Sounds promising to me. I loved the first, and anything to keep me occupied until the second would be great

Cool, according to reviews and such, it didn’t match the level of the original Dead Space but it’s still a good way to kill some time until the arrival of the second one, plus it provides more story about the universe of Dead Space which is always welcomed lol
