One of the UK’s oldest and most iconic retailers, WHSmith, has announced that it will no longer sell video games in any of its 550+ stores.
They have been reducing the number of stores that stocked video games for the past year but now they will only sell via their online business.
Increasing competition from specialists like GAME and entertainment heavies like HMV have contributed to the move.
A spokesperson for the company told MCV:
Our withdrawal from the CD and games market is a natural step in the implementation of our strategy to reduce our presence in entertainment and focus instead on our core categories
