OK so technically I covered motion controllers back in January, but that was before we knew about the Move. I honestly can’t believe the name choice, although I don’t suppose they could make the controller’s function any clearer. I still really like Arc, but it looks like that name is now dead in the water after the GDC announcement.
So now that we know an awful lot more about Move and still next to nothing about Natal lets re-open the debate, but only on Move. I don’t want to re-hash the very few facts we know about Natal, and no, a developer calling Natal ‘sh*t*’ doesn’t count.
So what exactly do we know on Move? We know that it’ll have a Nunchuck style ‘Sub-controller’ which is a far, far worse name than Move. We know a little more about the tech employed in the new controller, including that it uses three types of sensor on the controller, plus the Playstation Eye to give location, movement and inclination to a very high level of accuracy.
Most importantly we’re now getting reports of how the controller handles in real game situations. The general consensus of the press seems to be that it plays incredibly well in games, is very responsive and fits in well in the games their showing. In particular I’ve heard some very good reports of the new SOCOM title. Doing an FPS as one of their demonstration titles was a great move by Sony, it’s the best way to appeal to their core audience, and proves that the controller will work in ‘real games’.
So with the full reveal of Move and some of its titles has your opinion changed? Have you switched sides completely, or has it just re-enforced it in the right way? More importantly did Sony manage to pull of the revel well? And, of course, will Move prove a success?
