Lunchtime Discussion: Absence

With various bits and pieces that I’m doing this week I’m away at my parents until Friday. Now I freely admit that I don’t play a lot of games, but having to leave my 360 the week that the Halo: Reach beta went public has me pretty bummed out. In fact I was 5 hours late to my Dad’s house on Sunday due to playing (and writing about) the beta, it’s just that good. It’s not often that a game can suck away my time like that, I think the last one was Assassin’s Creed, but it’s actually got me missing gaming for once.

The real issue is that the Reach beta has got my brain back into gaming mode for a bit, and now I’m being denied the digitised goods. Sure I’m typing this on my laptop, but that’s only good for Flash games. The only game I’ve risked installing was the first episode of Tales of Monkey Island, and even something as relatively simple as that only ran at about 10 frames per second, making it basically unplayable. I do own a DS but the charger is lost somewhere in the mists of my room, potentially in a drawer with other chargers that look worryingly similar.

So now what do I do? Dream about Reach? Code those websites I told a friend I would weeks ago and promised I’d do today? Watch the depressing drudgery of daytime TV? God knows. What would you do if you were me? Do you miss gaming when you’re forced to take an absence?
