Three of Ubisoft’s future AAA titles are being developed on the PS3 as lead platform. You may have noticed during the EA conference how it was the PS3’s DualShock controller that featured prominently, a shift away from previous demonstrations in the past when the Xbox 360 console more often than was not shown as the device powering furtive glimpses of upcoming titles. It appears now that Ubisoft have also followed suit with the switch, with Driver: San Francisco, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier all demoed at their booth at E3 using PlayStation 3 hardware.
When asked by NowGamer what the rationale behind the newfound affection for Sony’s console was, the answer was clear: all three games are being developed first on the PS3. Prying further, one particular Ubisoft representative went so far as to claim that developers would “be mad to do things the other way around”.
The problems of leading game development on the Xbox 360 and then porting to the PS3 have been well documented, but it’s interesting nonetheless to see yet another big publisher come out and publicly embrace the switch. The good news is that, ultimately, such a decision will lead to a superior product on both platforms, with developers admitting in the past how the challenges faced making a game first on the PS3 often results in cleaner, tighter and more optimised code when it comes to creating the 360 version.

Nice one Ubisoft!! It looks like everyone’s a winner when the PS3 is the lead platform, with both of the main consoles getting a quality version of the game.

Lets hope R* embrace the same mentality.

Well done Ubisoft :)

Good news, really like Ubisoft, they seem focused on the customer, not the cash.

Try to say that to the PC gamers…

I think Sony had a lot of convincing to do with devs to get them to “buy on” to the idea of lead develop for PS3 then port to 360. It makes total sense. Develop for a supercomputer 1st then port to a mac G4. Took them long enough. I also think, alot of devs owe Sony big time for making their companies prosper during the PS1 and PS2 days.

Refreshing and good news all round me thinks. Would laugh my arse off if bungie come out and say their leading with the PS3 development of their next title!

Good to see Driver: San Francisco on that list, but what about Hawx2.
