FFXIV PS3 Facing Technical Issues

Delays and Final Fantasy games go hand in hand these days, so it’s no surprise to hear that Final Fantasy XIV has suffered a setback.  What’s surprising however is that only the PS3 version has been shunted back, as the PC version has been given a release date of September 30th.

Speaking with JeuxOnline, Final Fantasy XIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka has stepped up and admitted that the PS3 delay is down to technical issues;

“We understand the wrath of players and developers are sorry because they did everything they could to have a simultaneous release date, but unfortunately they have encountered many technical problems on the development of the game for PS3. We strive to release the game as soon as possible.

If possible, we would publish the game sooner; we would like to start as soon as possible the beta on PS3.”

At the moment the PS3 version has been plonked in the March 2011 release window, some six months after the PC release.  That’s some damn big technical issue they got there!

  1. Is the technical issue related to not starting the PS3 version on time?

    • They my have under estimated the time needed for the PC version.
I’ve heard from a few coders that it is a lot more time consuming programming for PCs now than it was a few years ago. You’ve got to develop for single core to quad core CPUs and GPUs running DirectX 10 and 11.

  2. I have a feeling it’s going to miss the March 2011 date as well, too bad. Although I’ve still only played 3 hours of XIII.

  3. meh im more interested in FFvsXIII

    • same, i dont like paid per month games

    • Me too

    • What is the latest on VsXIII? Is it supposed to be coming before or after IV?

  4. What exactly is the difference between 13versus and 14? Aren’t they both mmo’s?

    • no

      • helpfull.

      • Stillcan’tthinkofagoodpsnname obviously stillcan’tthinkofanythinggoodtosay, in which case he should justsayfuckingnothingatall.

    • 14 is an MMO. Versus 13 is a spin off of 13, it has a completely different set of characters to 13, but shares the same ideas, or something like that anyway. Either way it means Versus is probably the one to be more excited for, unless you really love your MMOs.

      • thanks, i was wondering as well. I cant see pay per month really taking off on consoles, to much other stuff to play on them. And the time needed for MMO’s is so big, the game needs to be played upstairs in a small room out the way of people

      • i read somewhere that it would be more action based prehaps something akin to kingdom hearts but without Goofy

      • “the game needs to be played upstairs in a small room out the way of people”
Isn’t that how all games are meant to be played? No? Just me then!

      • Ok, thanks, though i’m still not sure i understand properly. I was convinced both are online type questing with your mates type things. Come on, someone Please give a good answer to clarify for me.

      • haha, i meant a lot of console sit in the living room. where as most PC’s are tucked away some where. MMO’s take so much time, i was guessing that people would rather play on PC so they don’t hog the TV down stairs, and get an ear bashing from her in doors when x-idol or some other painfully crap TV is on.

      • 14 is online questing with your mates. Versus 13 is strictly single player like 13 was.

      • Haha. Bajere, you just described my living situation perfectly. Big brother is the piece of shit tv programme that annoys the shit out of me at the moment. When that finishes, we get the amazingly awful x factor, and after that i’m a celebrity fuckwit, get me out of here. Considering britain’s got talent has only just finished, there’s just a constant stream of “reality” Shite. Plus i never get why they call it that, none of the programmes that fall under that category ever reflect reality at all. Ok, rant over, sorry, that should be katy’s job.

    • FF13 Versus is a traditional Japanese RPG, all off line as far as I’m aware. I believe it’s more action based than the standard FF13.
FF14 is an online MMO which will come with a required monthly subscription.

      • Amphlett, thanks, that is a good answer.

      • VsXIII is basically more a Kingdom Hearts game than a Final Fantasy one(It’s actually being developed by the Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 dev team if I remember right). Good news if you hated FFXIII as much as I did really, but bad news if you’re fed up with the delays to Kingdom Hearts 3 it is causing.

      • I don’t mind the pay monthly model if the game is free to obtain in the first place via a download but charging me £40.00 (est.) to buy the disk then probably 8-10 quid a month. No Ta.

  5. I think the PC version will get delayed as well, as it’s nowhere close to complete.

  6. I think this is a real shame. I don’t see why the developers would have technical issues with the PS3 version since FFXIII had the PS3 as lead platform. I know they’re not the same game but surely they’re proficient at coding for the platform?

Also, I thought this was going to allow cross-platform interaction? Surely that gives PC owners a distinct edge over PS3 owners?

  7. Who ever gets the MMO console experience right is going to earn a fortune. I would love to play a decent MMO on a console..one day perhaps.
