Sega Cancel AVP Patches

Patches and updates for both the PS3 and XBox versions of Aliens Vs. Predator have been cancelled. Posting on the Sega forums, a representative said:

I’ve just received a mail this AM regarding patches for the console versions of AVP and I regret to inform everyone that these have sadly been scrapped.

I had previously made a claim that these were coming and at the time, this was very much on the table. For the console community, I apologize, as I know there are many features and updates that you’d like to see. I’ll keep fighting internally for this to happen, but until I hear otherwise, there will not be a console patch for either Xbox or PS3.

No reason is given for the cancellations which come a mere week after the release of the ‘Bughunt’ DLC map pack. The PC version of the game will continue to be supported and has received five patches, the console versions have received just one.

  1. I played the demo and was instantly put off by how crap it played and looked. How was the actual game though? judging by the patch being cancelled suggest’s that it hasn’t sold much and is utter tripe….

    • ‘Utter tripe’ is a bit harsh though, it played ok and was a bit of a change to every other FPS. It certainly needed a few more patches though, as waiting to get into games was better than the demo but at times it was still 5-10 mins before you got to see any action. The SP was fun but boring, with the same areas repeated through each species campaign and the predator feeling nerfed for much of his missions.

    • i thought the demo was quite good but the full game was XOblegh (thats a vomiting smiley) single player was crap apart from the first half of the marine campaign which makes me optimistic for aliens:colonial marines, and multiplayer is unfinished. On the whole the game feels pre beta which is surprising as the team behind it were allegedly big fans of the universe and were very proud to be making the game

  2. Love the subtitle Tuffcub! Very good.

    • Indeed, bravo!

    • I can hear the voice saying it in my head, but I can’t place it!! What is it from!??!?!?!?

      • It’s actually from Aliens.

Hudson: ‘That’s it, man. Game over, man. Game over, what the f**k are we supposed to now, huh, what are we gonna do?’

    • Why thank you. *bows*

    • Pinched from EUROGAMER “comments” sectin to the same article Im guessing, posted 9 minutes prior to your article, sorry to spill the beans lol ! ;)

  3. would i be right in saying that sega’s devs would have spent many hours writing the code for these patches then being told ‘thanx but we aren’t gunna release them’ i’m sure the devs could have been doing something better like wan… i mean developing new titles

  4. OK, so AvP has it flaws

But this lack of support doesn’t cast SEGA in the best light, I know nobody will remember the next time a big release comes around, but perhaps they should.

    • I shall.
Saw an ad in a Playstation magazine. They hyped it to holy hell, I was really excited for it. Rented it, played it twice, forgot about it.
The very fact that they were working on a patch suggests they know it has flaws. To up and quit makes me think twice about Sega and its quality control.

      • Good man!

      • Sega have not been impressing me lately. Somehow everything they seem to release, has issues that you can’t ignore. Why is that Sega?

  5. What absolute balls. I’m clearly in the minority of people on TSA who actually enjoy AvP, though I feel a bit let down to know that SEGA can’t be arsed to patch a game which has had obvious, annoying and widely known flaws since release.

    • It’s biggest flaw is that is it f*****g awful and feels like a step backwards both technically and subjectively from AvP2 on the PC 11 Years ago.

Truly dreadful game in every way IMHO.

  6. I’m sick of SEGA to be honest after reading they never really helped with AP

  7. AvP isnt a terrible game, it just has flaws. Cancelling patches that would improve its problems is just stupid. Don’t they care about the quality of the games they release?

  8. Any mention of what the cancelled patches were actually for?

  9. People shocked at the fact SEGA release half-finished games and then offer poor support for the titles?

News just in, the world is round!

  10. Another nail in the coffin
