We’re hearing, through the grapevine, that Virgin Gaming have just announced a partnership with Ubisoft. For those of you who aren’t following Sir Richard’s newest venture as closely as I am, Virgin Gaming is aiming to be a platform for gaming competitions and a community of gamers.
Ubisoft have signed up to allow Virgin Gaming to organise online tournaments for some of their multiplayer fare this year. First and foremost this will include some event around Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. This seems to be quite a promising partnership for Virgin, teaming up with one of the world’s largest console game publishers.
What does it mean for gamers? Well, when Virgin Gaming launched at E3 Sir Richard was waving around the promise of a million dollars-worth of prizes in the first year for the new tournament organiser. That’s a lot of zeros on a cheque for shooting some ones and zeros on a TV screen.
Specifics are yet to be disclosed but the competitions are specifically slated for Ubisoft’s online console titles. Better start tuning your router settings and practicing your headshots.
We’ll keep you up to date with any more interesting announcements coming out of Virgin Gaming and in the meantime we’ll cross our fingers that Ubisoft’s latest Ghost Recon title is as good as it looked in L.A. this June.

Sounds good, virgin need to get in bed with ea and get some sports tournaments going on. Fifa footy comps for cash – lovely.

We need some type of games championship over here like the one they have in the US, but that’s not shite and played on 360’s, needs more diversity!
