Hopefully as Oddworld fans you’ll have been keeping up to date with the latest developer diaries over at the JAW website, and those of you that are keen to know how the game is progressing visually will have already digested the second such diary, which details what the team are doing to enhance the last-gen visuals and bring them up to date for the PS3.
You’ll see from the blog that Just Add Water have taken the CG version of Stranger as a base and then worked backwards to create a nice, healthy 20,000 polygon model from the half a million version used in the pre-rendered cut-scenes. Once done, they then recreated the UV maps and then redid the textures using Ambient Occlusion, Normal and Specular maps.
So, how does the old guy look?

The remake of the classic Oddworld: Strangers Wrath is currently locked for PlayStation 3 but the team at JAW are keeping an open mind about other platforms. The game will support 720p visuals with added character detail as seen above and plenty of new bonus content (althought what that is currently remains under wraps) and will also support the PlayStation Move.

My girlfriend is going crazy for this. She loved the PS1 oddworlds but never played this as it was Xbox only. She will be taking over the PS3 for this no doubt.

She’s not a hardcore gamer but she is a big casual game fan. She has a Shockwave subscription and is happy on her laptop when i’m on the PS3 unless she’s helping me in Deathspank or a PixelJunk

my girlfriend is also a hardcore gamer, (has all 3 consoles just like me!) and I have to sday, I feel SO lucky xD
We often have gaming sessions on LBP, L4D, Halo, Gears, Resistance etc. She picked up Move and Heavy Rain the other day so has been totally lost in it for a while xD
It is pretty bloody fantastic having a gamer girl :’)

I’m not sure if I’d like that for that reason…Gaming is my own little getaway and it wouldn’t be the same for me if a partner always wanted to be in on it as well.
Although on reflection it would probably have saved some arguments!

I’ve played both Abe’s Exoddus and Oddysee. But never Stranger’s Wrath.
Is it somewhat the same kind of game or..?

Philberts spot on, it’s very funny, has a marvellous sense of place and the lead character is very likeable. The gradual empowerment of the player is brilliantly pitched too and all of the incremental improvements to your arsenal and physical ability are great – you’re a real force of nature towards the games climax :) I’m looking forward to going through this again

I also was a huge fan of Abe’s outings, but didn’t get this or Munch’s Oddysee, because of the platform jump.
Wish the Abe ones would get the HD treatment too, I bought the PSOne classic releases offa PSN, but they’re kind of hard to look at on a huge HD TV…
