The net is ablaze this morning with rumour that Activision are primed to announce a “second-tier” subscription service for their popular Call of Duty series. The source of the speculation comes from renowned rune-interpreters Wedbush Securities, who said:
Activision remains a top pick, primarily due to the company’s potential to create and monetize a second tier of multiplayer online gaming for its Call of Duty franchise.
We expect this to occur during the first quarter of 2011.
Such conjecture flies in the face of Activision’s head honcho, Bobby Kotick, repeatedly stating that the publisher would not introduce a pay-to-play model for the franchise. Of course, Activision could have other endeavours up its giant sleeve that meets the criteria of not charging for online play in connection with the normal retail Call of Dutys while still introducing some sort of subscription based service.

I’d pay tommorow if it gave us dedicated servers and more maps included. Although I’Ve gone back onto MW2 and doubt the service would cover older games.

Even Kotick said online for CoD will always be free, and you know how radical he is.

The COD series lost my interest with black ops, so this would make no difference to me if they introduced a PPP system
kingpowell
so they want us to pay to not be able to connect with friends or is it that you now have to subscribe to get the level os service u originally expected

Anyone who believes this rumor is stupid.
Activision already said they will never charge subscriptions for the game.
Research the facts, not your feelings.
