Think Your PlayStation Collection Is Big? Check This Out!

Yeah, I’m fully aware that this isn’t news. However, I know this will be of interest to some of you, purely because of the scale of the achievement. Over on PlayStation Collecting an interview has taken place with ‘Ahans76’, a person who has collected every NTSC PS2 game ever made.

Oh, and they are all sealed. Crazy.

  1. WHY WOULD YOU NOT EVEN OPEN THEM?!?! Inside are tens of thonsands of hours of enjoyment, and they might never be played. :(

    • He’s a collector. Collectors don’t open the product. He’s also very likely also a gamer so, don’t worry, there’s a very good chance he’s purchased a second copy of the games he actually wants to play.

      • Yeah collectors also get all the girls

      • I understand collecting, but to not even open them…

      • @3shirts:
I read a rumor in the comments section of Engadget about him also being the holder of the largest collection of sealed condoms. :D

      • @kerash ha ha that made me chuckle !

      • He probably collects the girls and keeps them buried at the bottom of the garden

    • Sealed = worth more. A true collector never opens the seal!

    • Exactly. That single fact takes this person from being an avid gamer who i’d respect for their dedication to a mental square with more money than sense

      • If his collection gets much bigger, his mum will make him move!

      • You really like collectors don’t you ;) I like to collect collectors editions of games and I have a decent sized collection now. I have opened them though as I can’t afford to buy a second copy!

I collect them as I enjoy doing it. I have an extremely rare collectors edition of Yoshis island on the SNES!

      • NRFB……. Never remove from box :)

      • I just don’t understand the mentality of a collector. Why spend so much money buying EVERY single game but never so much as open them. I realise that they’re worth more unopened but I just don’t understand why you’d want to do that!

He must be one of those guys with more money than sense!

      • That’s the thing. Sure they might be worth more sealed but he’s unlikely to EVER get back the cost anyway so what’s the point.
I just think you should collect things you like and if you like games this much you should be playing them!

  2. I just read this over on engadget. Crazy collection! Wish I owned them. Must be worth loads, especially being sealed

  3. Pointless.
A big collection of anything is great but when it exists purely as a collection it becomes overwhelmingly sad.

    • I disagree. By that logic you could say collecting anything is pointless. My father-in-law collects stamps. You should see his face whn he gets a new batch in the post. These things are “worth” very little, but he derives great enjoyment in the actual collecting part.

      • good point if it makes you happy why not.

      • Stamps are different. You collect them for their artistic merit and display them so you can appreciate them. The merit of games is in the playing and he’s not doing that.

      • I don’t know. I display my collection quite proudly. I think it has artistic merit. All those delicious boxes, running into one another, the colours blending so subtly. The plastic, shiny and glistening in the incandescent fire-glow.

Woah! What just happened? Where are my pants?
        ;)

      • same feel very proud of all my PS3 games.

    • pointless now, maybe, to you, but think about it, 30 years down the track that collection may well be worth quite a lot of money

      • I doubt it. Atari games still don’t make a lot and they are that age. Plus they are a lot rarer.

  4. Shit, and I thought having 110 PS3 boxed games counted as a collection.

  5. Maybe he chipped his PS2 and downloaded each game so that he could play the games without breaking the seals..?

  6. wow! That’s amazing.

  7. I suppose in years to come people might look it the collection like you would a library in a royal property. Then again maybe not! To me it’s an impressive achievement, but not because it’s games.

  8. Holy sheesh, nice cabinet!

    • I was thinking the same, nice craftmanship.

      • Cost as much as the games if it’s solid hardwood too!

    • I do think the games deserve a more impressive/potective cabinet! :)

  9. Surely this can’t be proven – perhaps within one of the sealed cases is the wrong disc, thus he has an incomplete collect…I think he should open them all just to prove it! :)

    • *collection.

    • Schroedingers cat, my friend.

      • or in this case Schrodinger’s game.

      • Isn’t it Schroedinger Catch – oh wait, that’s the Portal 2 trophy :)

  10. I’m more impressed by his chocobos, kweh?

    • Haha, indeed. Love the Tonberry there. My girlfriend has the Christmas edition of that chocobo series. I’m still waiting for the real deal…

    • Warrk. Me too.
