Yes, we know. Rumours about a new iteration of Xbox hardware are coming thick and fast now and they’re all just little indicators which point to something we already know: Microsoft is working on a new Xbox. Of course they are. The rumours are unlikely to stop any time soon though, so get used to them. They’ll probably reach fever pitch just in time for the Next Gen PlayStation rumours to take over from them. That’ll be fun.
Anyway, this latest round of rumour is born out of a series of CVs (or resumés, if you’d prefer) in which certain current and former Microsoft employees make reference to “Next Gen” and are either explicitly tied to the Xbox brand or implicitly linked.
Jeff Falkner’s is probably the most explicit, he’s listed as “Xbox Next Gen Creative Director” but then, he worked on the tragically doomed Zune program, too. Hopefully the new games hardware will be a little better supported than that.
It’s all very tangentially linked from there onwards, ambiguous terms which could apply to new software iterations or console redesigns (like the 360 S redesign from last year) appear enough that we can imagine a whole new console but there is also room for Microsoft to deny it, as they will right up to the point when they’re ready to release it.
If you want to read the CVs for yourself, take a look at Supererogatory’s twitter feed and click through to them.
I hate the term “Xbox 720”, can we call it the “NextBox”?
Kevatron400
I prefer Xbox 362.

‘I hate the term “Xbox 720″, can we call it the “NextBox”?’ And the 360 can be renamed the Cexbox. That place is full of traded in 360s.

Obvious news is obvious :P

and tedious.
DirtyHabit
Best start saving then…..
What happened to that UI update? I thought it was due September?
Jimster71
I read that it’s rumoured for november.
colossalblue
It’s coming. Mid-late November is the latest I’m hearing, it’s a big Kinect-friendly redesign built on Silverlight…

Hopefully Sony aren’t too late into the next gen, but let’s give it a couple more years. Oh, and don’t release it before it’s ready.
tonyyeb
Hopefully Sony have seen that Nintendo released the 3DS so early they forgot to add the second analogue nub. #nightmare
Jimster71
lets hope they include cross game chat this time.
zeroTRoN
I dont understand y ppl r so obsessed w XGC. I dont want or need it. Just make it more dependable. F XGC & the horse it didnt ride n with
Jimster71
I’d like for them to come out with a different name, like the X3 or the Xbox Nexus or something like that. I’d prefer not to have a 720 as it just starts to get out of hand with numbers.
DirtyHabit
Xbox 360
Xbox 720
Xbox 1080
Xbox RICKYY WINTERBOURNNE !!!

G-Box
Forrest_01
Bit too close to G-Spot i reckon! :D
Amphlett
I suppose it would come with a built in rumble feature.
PoorPaddy89
Some people would refute it exists, and many more wouldn’t be able to find it.
DrNate86
And those that do find it might wish they hadn’t when it blows up in their face. Unless they are into that kind of thing.
bacon_nuts
Rumours, rumours, rumours.. It’s obvious that they’re working on new tech, companies always are. Why don’t people just wait till it’s announced and then talk about it. Speculation on a vague comment in someones CV is just annoying.. In my opinion at least.
TSBonyman
Tentative confirmation of a natural and undoubtedly correct assumption, that Microsoft are working on their next-gen console. Stunningly unneccessary detective work.. :/
It would be more newsworthy if they had discovered that actually no, neither Sony or Microsoft have even started planning their next-gen boxes.
ron_mcphatty
Perhaps thats what they want you to think, maybe Microsoft leaked this information to make people think ‘what a load of b****cks!’, but secretly they actually want you to think ‘ah, its a double bluff, the nextbox is real!’, but Microsoft know its actually not, except the secret dungeon workers who are actually making it, but denying it to their families who think they are working at the Morrisons fishmongers.
tisoyboy2
wouldn’t the use of Xbox720 in the Real Steel trailer have a paper tail leading to Microsoft? If not, then Microsoft doesn’t own the name and it was created just for the movie as part of its future setting.
