Now You Can Shout at Skyrim With Kinect Support

We’ve just got word through that Bethesda is adding Kinect support to Skyrim on the Xbox 360.

Since its release, numerous people have half-jokingly suggested that Kinect support for shouts should be in the game. Bethesda isn’t stopping there though, they’re adding voice control options for trading, follower commands and all menus too.

There is going to be over 200 different voice commands in the final list, which will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s a video to show how it will all work.

  1. That IS a genuinely good idea, for once the ‘better with Kinect’ tagline will not be a lie in a traditionally core game.

I hope the PS3 gets the additional stuff too, such as sorting items by weight and the like. It’s annoying going through massive lists to see what to take out of the chest in my house and what to leave, etc.

    • Hell if they just alphabetised my bloody weapons chest I’d be happy!

Be nice if they added the voice coms to the PS3 version, dunno how much of the overhead kinect takes away from the xbox but voice control on PS3 Endwar worked just fine. It’d be nice not to have to bugger about with menus half as much as we do currently.

  2. It’s so natural. “Ally, wait” – it’s basically a conversation.

    • I’m going to use it in the pub next time I’m out, that’s bound to sort out queue jumpers….

  3. May start playing Skyrim again then, was waiting for a DLC really but this may be fun. I really wanted speech commands more so for the weapons that the shouts as I hate having to go through the menus or the favourites as I chuck all my spells in favourites and if I want a weapon I have to spend ages scrolling through.

  4. I can speak dragon now. Dragon is cool

    • LOL! “Where am I?” “where is my follower Balthazar”

its like the kinect version of Siri!

Kinect, set calendar. ‘Overthrow the Empire. Tuesday!’

  5. Judging by how well the Xbox menus work with Kinect, this is going to suck. But then again, I’ve only had a short experience with my friend’s xbox, but it also wasn’t like the room was noisy…far from it in fact.

    • If it works as well in the video in real life though, it’s definitely a good addition. Don’t see why they can’t implement this with PSeye though…I guess it’s supported by Microsoft.

    • Did a bing search using kinect the other day for Diego Sanchez Clay Guida, my result? Diego Man chest plague wielder, not what I wanted.

  6. No wonder the PS3 version remains a glitched pile of crap in places, the devs have been busy supporting the group of customers they really care about.

After the glitch-fests of their previous games I’m surprised people still reward Bethesda’s actions with their hard earned money, but that’s just me.

    • Agreed. Find it quite bemusing really.

    • Didn’t buy the PS3 version luckily, but I’d still love to say “I’m never buying a Bethesda game again.”, but alas, they own the Fallout license. Skyrim was nothing special even without the bugs imo.

      • Agree, found it very boring and unvaried – felt like if youve seen one area you’ve seen them all.

Much preferred the underrated Kingdoms of Amalur, much the same kind of thing but with a lot more variety and far better combat.

    • Whoops, should have refreshed before I commented.

I agree, I’d much rather have a stable game, than have all those Kinect voice commands [if I had an Xbox]. It definitely feels like the PS3 players [like me] are getting short changed.

      • Fixing glitches isn’t as fun or sexy enough as Kinect.

Trying to debug an university programming project at the moment & concluding that the prior statement holds a lot of truth.

      • unfortunately for us players, Microsoft decide what Bethesda works on. The last MS Cheque obviously told them to add Kinect support.

  7. I’d rather they fix more glitches.

  8. I’d love to be at a friends playing this, while he is playing shout stuff like “unequipped all items”

    • “Drop trousers”

    • Your friend is casually walking past mammoths and giants…”Ally Attack” Noooooo! :P

      • Haha, that might make Skyrim more fun

      • Random but MrTwP, are you THE Twitching Peanut?

  9. Its nice to see the Kinect being used for something, even if it is is little extras like this. The ideas on Ghost Recon where you can direct orders and customise your weapons looked nifty too

  10. Xbox: Destroy Earth!

Erm… yeah I wonder if PC support will be added, isn’t there a Kinect ting for pc, meh whatever.. if I tried this it’ll go wrong, might delete game save instead equiping a bow.*gulps*
