Ex-Inifinity Ward creative strategist, Robert Bowling, has opened a new development studio called ‘Robotoki’.
Robotoki’s first project will be revealed later this year and will be launched on next-gen consoles, PC and mobile platforms.
You may recall the problems that beset Infinity Ward last year, leading West and Zampella to leave and set up Respawn. They have been very critical of Activision’s handling of the studio and Robert has also issued a thinly veiled attack his former employers.
“We are focused on our team first and everything else second, because I believe as an industry we have a lot to learn on how to treat talent,” he said.
The studio will be self funded and will only team up with a publisher who supports their work ethic, “I wanted to create an environment where the creative vision holders held complete control over their work and could guide and maintain it from concept to execution.”
Just an aside: Robotoki is creating games for next gen – you know, those consoles that don’t officially exist – but will be announcing their first game later in the year.
It’s a bit difficult to reveal a game without a platform so if a next gen game is going to be revealed later in 2012 then it stands to reason the PS4 and/or Nextbox will have been announced by then.

Thought he would have went to Respawn. Although I guess it won’t stop the two of them working together in some aspect.

It’s possible to develop a game for next-gen consoles without having the hardware. Just develop for PC’s and port when you need to. Adjusting the settings as seen fit and remapping controls.

“Adjusting the settings as seen fit and remapping controls.”
Yeah I guess those two are the hardest things in a port… (you are not a coder are you? ;)

“a publisher who supports their work ethic” so that’s a no to Acti (goes against his DLC views) and no also to EA (goes against his online pass views).
It should be good whatever he develops, he’s actually a great guy and knows what gamers want, he just didn’t like Acti’s model.
