Is Something Big Coming To PlayStation Plus Soon?

As we approach the two year anniversary of PlayStation Plus, rumours are starting to surface that something big is coming to the premium subscription-based service that has seen those that pay out the modest fee receive advance buying options, lots of free games and some technical advantages, like automatic downloads.

However, we’re hearing on the grapevine that there’s more to follow, and whilst we can’t advise everyone to rush and shell out for an annual sub just yet, we reckon something’s happening that might well tempt those that are yet to dip their toes into the Plussy waters.

What is it? We don’t know – honestly. We’ve tried probing our usual contacts but nobody’s telling us anything, other that what we’ve gleaned from a few SCEE Twitter accounts (which we’ll not make a big deal of) and a couple of willing but tight-lipped folk around the industry.

So, whilst there’s nothing concrete, the messages we’re getting suggest it’s going to be something of an innovation and improvement as opposed to anything like a specific game or freebie, although that could happen too. It’s coming up to E3, could it be related to the events and titles on the show floor? There’s some talk that this could be linked.

We’ll see, but in the meantime feel free to speculative wildly – if you will – in the comments below.

  1. let me guess, a bonus if you buy a years sub, and if we’re really lucky, they might give us all of two days notice.

  2. I wonder if it could possibly be a PS3 repair service that would replace the likes of Continuous Play that died a while back. In the early days of Plus there was always talk of such a service for a premium subscriber account…..just a thought :-O

  3. Would be a good move if some of the demo’s or games shown during the press conference where available as demo’s for PS+ subscribers. I am sure they will have some near completed games or extra content available that they can release without it been in Alpha state.

Press conferences tend to have a mixture of this years games shown in an almost finished state with trailers or teases of games for 2013 or beyond (GT5/Last Guardian I am looking at you).

Whatever its another good way of generating talk and buzz around Sony pre E3.
