Microsoft Job Offer Mentions “Next Generation” Of Xbox

A job opening at Microsoft has mentioned “next generation” in relation to Xbox, and even, in a rough sense of the word, dated the new console. Or at least suggested that it’s hardly anything more than a year or so away.

The position – Lead Program Manager for the company’s Skype division in London – says that “Xbox is a fundamental lynchpin of Skype’s living-room strategy, and we are focused on enabling amazing new in-game and in-console voice and video experiences for the next generation of Xbox.”

“This is a crucial initiative for Xbox, and it is time-critical given the hardware lead times involved.”

Sounds like this “next generation” probably isn’t that far away then. The advert was picked up about 24 hours ago and it’s still there as it was, so either Microsoft haven’t noticed the attention or they don’t care.

Last year Halo 4 was leaked – by Microsoft – about two hours before their E3 conference. I know this because I got up at about 5 in the morning and queued for the damned thing. I was there at the front when the news came through, it was an amazing sight.

  1. Maybe Microsoft are gearing up for a 720 announcement at this years E3 with a shock late 2012 (yes 2012) release. That would seriously put a dampener on Wii-U’s potential hype/buzz.

But I want 1080p/60fps NOW. And yes I have a PC and loving my more than full HD Diablo 3 fun BUT I prefer the more comfy sofa/bed gaming :)

    • That’s the problem, it’s near impossible to get comfy sofa gaming and the best quality graphics. I’m a console gamer, but if they let you be a comfy gamer I’d be on them, I’d still have a console though.

    • I also think that a 2012 or early 2013 release is possible.
I think its smart of microsoft to be changing the direction of the 360 towards kids, this is what sony did with ps1, ps2 when the next gen consoles came out… and the 360 will be able to pump out HD kids games for years to come that will look good.

so a 720 reveal to make the hardcore that dont want casual experiances upgrade to get there COD fix is smart.

      It deffinatly could happen.

  2. This is good news because the nearer MS are to releasing a new console, the closer Sony is to releasing the next Playstation.

I remember Sony saying they didn’t want MS to get the leg up this time round.

  3. Yep personally more interested in a new PS4 as not liking the direction Microsoft have taken with 360.

But as a long time PC gamer I remember before the xbox 1 was even a thought Microsofts plans where always to get something in the centre of the home viewing space. Looks like they finally have done it.

1 week to go to E3 and we’ll know.

  4. Using the skype protocol for in game voip is a good move.
