Sony Files Trademarks For “Destiny of Spirits”

Trademark filings are an interesting, but ultimately frustrating, area of exploration in videogame news hunting. It’s not too difficult to dig up new things you may not have seen or heard of before but there’s never a lot of information to go with the name and basic functions.

In this case, a filing has been found (with images posted on AGB) that indicates Sony are working on something called “Destiny of Spirits”. The mark was filed by Sony Computer Entertainment of America and it’s for computer game software or electronic game software for use on handheld devices.

There’s no more information than that so everything else here is purely speculation. A quick scout around websites that have already picked up this news shows that plenty of people are already jumping to PlayStation 4 shaped conclusions, probably for SEO reasons more than logical ones. At this stage, next gen makes sense for any new filings but the explicit mention of “handheld” isn’t always present in these trademark applications so it might be more sensible (though less profitable) to assume this is something Vita related.

The title is all we have to go on – it could be literally anything – but it sounds like a cool name for something with a survival horror vibe, doesn’t it?

  1. The form states it’s registered for “Computer game software; Electronic game software for use on handheld devices; video game software” so maybe a cross platform game, rather than a game just for Vita.

  2. to me it sounds more like something with an RPG vibe

    • My thoughts exactly… A Japanese RPG with weird floaty elctric pulsating characters castings spells with magical mystical elf type folk.
