The Division is definitely one of the biggest titles coming to the new generation and PC next year. We know it will be a multiplayer title set in New York a few weeks after the collapse of society, and it will be focused on teamwork too. We also know it is being powered by the impressive Snowdrop engine to recreate accurate lighting and physics effects.
However there is quite a lot we don’t know but an interview discovered by The Examiner has revealed some more information, such as the way the city will react to players, the survival aspect and trading.
First off every player will start the game with 72 hours worth of supplies (though whether that’s in game or real time wasn’t explained), including weapons, ammo, food, but will soon have to start scavenging. However, though food and water will be key for trading, they won’t really be needed by the player as a lack of either won’t kill the player. Ammo conservation won’t really be necessary either, though you’ll still have to manage resources to get through missions.
You also don’t pick a class at the beginning of the game, which allows you to play around with different tactics and eventually finding a style that suits you. Â This will be affected by how you respond to situations and missions that crop up during the game.
There will also be a lot of building interiors to access across the city, and apparently being inside will play a major part of the game. Ubisoft didn’t give a clear indication of how many buildings would be accessible, but expect quite a lot spread out across New York.
There will also be a black market of sorts where players will be able to trade the loot they find including guns, food, ammo, and whatever else may prove useful to someone else.
The way players communicate with each other is still being worked on, though party chat is likely to be key. It’s communicating with players that aren’t part of your group that Ubisoft still need to firmly decide upon, and how you can interact with other players through voice or messaging.
There wasn’t too much information of how players would react with NPCs, though the police are likely to be of assistant if a player needs help. The way other groups react to a player is likely to rest on what actions a player takes for or against them, though much of that system is being kept under wraps.
The Division will be releasing on PS4, XBO and PC late 2014.

I just really want to here more about how the online interactions will work, and how much of it you can play on your own.

Personally, I’m hoping to avoid playing with unknowns/randoms. Something where a closed group of friends can play (like GTA V) would be nice but appreciate that might be too much of a restriction. Hmm….

Yeah, I want to avoid stuff like what I hear Day-Z to be like – randoms pretend to be friendly, then kill you and take all your gear. That just isn’t fun to me, but equally I don’t want to have to be tied down playing only when your group of friends can play.

Same here, for all it’s trumpeted online-ness, i’m super excited for the single player.
Essentially then you’ve got a survival RPG set in a very living New York with some unbelievably realistic graphics.
I think they did say that you can still play the full game on your own, with your 3 squad members being AI controlled.

Cant wait for this game. I wish this had been a launch title.

+1, this is with out doubt my most anticipated upcoming title for the PS4. It just looks amazing.

Have been excited for this for ages, hope it lives up to the early impressions.
Would be quite cool if the black market trading was done online via an iOS/Android App, that would be a cool use of an out-of-game App.

Unless you don’t have an iOS or Android device…

…or on the web as well, such as the FIFA FUT App.

Loving everthing about this at the moment. I think it would be cool if you needed the food and had restrcted ammo though

This is the game that I’m looking forward to the most. I notice a few people commenting on how they won’t like playing with randoms for fear of other players pretending to be friends then killing you for your gear, but i think this is brilliant, it brings a sense of paranoia and fear that many games just don’t bring to the table in online mode.

Can’t wait for this looks really good but I only play for a couple of hours a day so gonna be a bit hard to keep up with all the goings on !!
