Alicia Vikander Has Been Cast As Lara Croft For Tomb Raider Movie

MGM and GK Films have confirmed that Alicia Vikander will take on the role of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movie, beating the likes of Star Wars star Daisy Ridley for the opportunity. Alicia Vikander has appeared in a number of movies over the last couple of years including Ex Machina, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Danish Girl, and Burnt. Her next big acting role to hit cinemas will be Jason Bourne.

The Swedish actress was apparently considered the number one choice to take on the character of Lara Croft, but annoucement of her involvement had been delayed due to changes in the script. Tomb Raider is to be directed by Roar Uthaug, a Norwegian film director that doesn’t appear to have helmed any major film projects outside of Norway.

  1. NEver heard of her but it will interesting to see how she does in the role and if they will give it a decent treatment. Got quite a lot to live up to though due to Angelia Jolie’s Lara Croft being excellent.

Oh and insert joke about the typical bs about some groups reacting badly because of the gender of the actor.

    • Best film to watch would probably be Ex Machina. Highly enjoyed that film.

      • If it’s on filmfour or if i can find it cheap, i’ll give it a chance.

      • Ex Machina is excellent Steven, it’s like an indie single set version of AI or Bicentennial Man, only properly sinister! Buy it :)
I think Alicia will do well, she was great in Uncle. Hopefully her Croft films will be a bit grittier than the Jolie ones, which were great but the film style is definitely out of fashion now. And I’m glad Daisey Ridley didn’t get the part, I would hate to see any of the inevitable negative press spoiling her so far sublime reign as Rey!

      • Me limited amount of cash due to my world domination plans not working out are preventing me from getting it. Or I just can’t afford to get it at this point in time. But it sounds like something that is worth a shot. :)

      • Oh and it’s written by Alex Garland, of The Beach, 28 Days Later and Sunshine fame. I don’t think he’s ever done anything bad, even his poop is pure art.

  2. Roar Uthaug? Director of last years big Norwegian blockbuster The Wave?Crap. Norwegian blockbuster usually means decent but not great. Set expectation-levels to dissapointment.

Hopefully the full staff will just click and it’ll be a good film, but I’m not expecting much.

Alicia Vikander is an interesting choice for Lara, I can see that part working.

  3. I think she’s rather perfect for the latest iteration of Lara Croft.
Although I also would have loved Daisy Ridley to play the part, but just because she’s freaking adorable.

  4. Im not sure she’s special enough to play such an iconic character but maybe that’s the point. Choose an average looking girl to play the part so other average girls can relate to her and average men think they have a chance. Same with that chick in the new Star Wars flick.

    • She’s hardly average looking…

      • What I mean is she could be anyone picked off the street. At least Angelina had something about her. This girl is ordinary in every sense of the word.

      • Which works for the new Lara. Lara Jolie was pretty much a sex icon from the 90s and all because someone accidentally messed up the breast size thus Jolie had rather big boobs to fill. *is booed by a crowd*

Alicia, she is a small time actor, yes but this could be the film to make her. I mean, Ryan Reynolds managed to survive Green Latern and X-Men:Origins to come back with Deadpool. She is bound to get a massive boost with this.

Plus, it kinda doesn’t matter with this Lara as the games have moved on from the big breasted lara to a realistic one that pissed off half the internet because i’m gonna to shut up now before i start a shitstorm.

The chick from Star Wars, she was a small time actor, now? She is easily one of the biggest successes of 2015. Granted, Star Wars is massive but still.

And by being ordinary, she could bring something to the role that Jolie couldn’t.

And yes, i’m going to probably be a bit of a perv during the film and check her out but it’s Tomb Raider! I was taught to leer after Lara!

        Stupid sexy 90s.

  5. “Her next big acting role to hit cinemas will be Jason Bourne.”

Surely they should just leave it to Matt Damon? ;)

  6. Hmmm….

  7. well, it would have been nice to finally get a british woman in the role, somebody, pulling a name off the top of my head, named, Daisy for instance.

now i’ve only seen Vikander in Ex Machina, but she was bloody good in that.
so, i’ll be there watching when it finally gets made.
hell, i’d probably go see it whoever it was.

unless that kim kardashian rumour ended up being true.
frankly i’d rather watch a marathon of all boll’s game movies.
    twice.

    • Daisy Ridley would’ve been good but I get the impression the budget isn’t huge for this going by the director.

  8. I think it’s better to have a relatively unknown play Lara rather than someone who may just see it as a one-off that they don’t get invested in.

A small-time actress?!? You guys have NO idea what you are talking about!

Having said that, I’m not too crazy about the choice but then again – if they go the TR: Rising way then I couldn’t care less about a movie with a small female archaelogist who goes Rambo on a ton of hapless thugs (all male of course).

I don’t get why haven’t chosen an actress of anglo-languistic origin though. And Vikander is so physically petite.

  10. Dunno why they didnt just use Camilla Luddington. She’s done a pretty decent job of it in the last two games..
