Time for Nintendo to pop yet another bottle of bubbly, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe out-dragged Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 into the first corner on its Friday release and swept through to take first place in last week’s UK sales charts. It’s the first Nintendo game to get to number 1 since 2011 and the first Mario game to do so since Mario Kart Wii in 2008.
The Nintendo Switch remains in ludicrously high demand, with stock shortages almost wherever you look, but NIntendo reportedly took the opportunity to ship more consoles to retailers to coincide with Mario Kart’s release. Getting more consoles into people’s hands also helped boost The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which climbed back up to fifth spot.
Elsewhere, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 debuted in second place, while it’s lovely to see Little Nightmares arriving in fourth place. It might have been a little disappointing for Outlast 2 to only reach 14th, as Puyo Puyo Tetris sold enough for 18th place, with most of those on Nintendo Switch, despite the higher pricing compared to the game on PS4.

An irony, I returned my Sniper 3 pre-order because of the bad performance and bought Mario Kart 8 instead. Not disappointed in the slightest.
I’m surprised Sniper got so high though.
