Although the PlayStation Blog seems fairly happy with today’s NPD (National Purchase Diary, a way of collating sales figures across the States), the PS3 is still being outsold by the 360. Of course, both next gen machines are being trounced by the PlayStation 2 and the PSP, and the Wii is massively on top of that, too.
Crazy times, but it’s clear that Sony are going to need to seriously cut the price of the PS3 to start making much of a difference. Here’s the figures in full:
Wii 425 k
Nintendo DS 405 k
PlayStation 2 222 k
PlayStation Portable 214 k
Xbox 360 170 k
PlayStation 3 159 k
Game Boy Advance 87 k
Of course, this doesn’t represent Worldwide figures: in Japan the 360 isn’t selling to anyone, and in Europe the figures are much closer, with some countries claiming the PS3 is actually outselling the 360. However, today’s news across the web will be all about the NPD, so you’d better get used to it!
Update 1: SCEE say no to price cuts! – no price cuts but more bundles for Europe. We’d prefer to see a price cut as bundle or not, the price point is clearly a barrier to many people.
