Microsoft have lifted one of their draconian guidelines and are now permitting XBL users to indicate their sexual orientation as part of their usernames going forward. Yay! Welcome to the 21st century Old Fellow! Previously any mention of any sexual shenanigans as part of your handle was “frowned upon.”
Stephen Toulouse, Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox LIVE, has twittered about the change in policy which will undoubtedly be welcomed by gaming’s many gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgendered and anyone else I’m unintentionally leaving out communities. But that’s not all! Straight people can now also express their admiration for the opposite sex’s attributes. Admittedly, such names like “BoyLikesBoobs” were probably snapped up on day one.
Stephen also expresses his thanks to the members of the community who helped with the updating of these terms. He states:
“Special thanks to GLAAD and Microsoft’s LGBT community for guidance on the terms.”
True fact: I was once tea-bagged by a user called G4yBoi4U. And he didn’t even buy me dinner first. If you’re out there G4yBoi4U, call me?
