Lunchtime Discussion: Future – Part 5

We’ve finally made it to the final day of Future week and it’s time to look to the distant future. Most of this week we’ve been looking at this generation and the next generation of consoles. Now it’s time to throw away the limits and do a bit of ‘What If’ thinking about the future. What if you could have anything at all for the future of gaming, what if there were no technological limits and you could have anything you wanted at all?

Given the no limits point of this discussion I actually found it surprisingly hard to come up with ideas. I mean the obvious ‘perfect’ system would be something like Star Trek’s holodeck, complete 100% immersion and realism. If we’re talking beyond the obvious there’s quite a few things that might be possible in more of the short run. Take, for example, importing real world mapping data into a game. I don’t mean any of those GPS tagging games that were popular a few years ago, I mean taking the data for your home town, London, Tokyo or anywhere and being able to import it into an open world game.

I want to leave my part pretty short on this topic and really let the community run wild. So if you could have anything in your game, anything at all, what would you have? If your console was capable of anything at all what would it be?

NOTE: This is a pre-written discussion, I may not be around to comment due to consuming vast amounts of pizza and playing games. Sorry guys.
