The controversial 50p broadband tax that was rushed through as part of the Digital Economy bill has been scrapped along with the 10% tax rise on Cider. Anybody would think there is an election on the way and the government is desperately backtracking on some of its unpopular schemes to try and improve its chances of winning! Surely not?!
The tax has been dropped as there is just not enough time to rush through all legislation before parliament gets dissolved next week. Good news all round then? Actually no, if Labour return to power then the Broadband tax returns with them, this is just a temporary reprieve.
