We tend to steer clear from small stories detailing new development offices but this one is quite interesting. 4mm Games are the studio who are making Def Jam: RapStar and the new London offices will initially be tasked with focussing on the UK sales and marketing for that title.
The studio is being founded by Jamie King and Gary Foreman who were part of the original team behind Grand Theft Auto and they have appointed Geoffrey Heath OBE as an advisor. Heath was the man responsible for helping Activision form a European side, he then assisted numerous other American games companies in founding European offices. He also notably once gave a job to a certain mr Phil Harrison.
So is this a sign of investment in the UK just as many of our developers seem to be closing offices and “restructuring”? We certainly hope so and we will be following the growth of 4mm with interest and with our fingers crossed that it will signal a new era of growth in the European landscape of game development.
