New Xbox 360 Model Leaked?

Whoever’s in charge of Xbox 360 ads over in Italy might be having a bit of a headache just now, because if you look at this Italian gaming site, there’s an advert playing for an Xbox 360 that looks a little bit different.

Assuming it’s real (the ad links to xbox.com) the ‘new’ Xbox 360 looks like it comes with a 250GB hard drive, wifi and something called Kinect, which is presumably the ‘real’ name for Project Natal.  Here’s a grab from the ad:

This comes as Microsoft were claiming super tight security around their new announcements for tonight and the rest of the week.  Utterly batshit bonkers insane, or whatever the terminology is these days.

We’ve no idea what the ad is all about, or whether it’s real, but we’ll hopefully see later tonight.

Update: It seems that the Kinect name has been filed as a trademark by Microsoft, although there’s no confirmation that it’s the new name for Project Natal.

The only information available is that Microsoft hold the trademark and that it’s filed in the ‘computer software, computer hardware and computer peripherals’ class.  Thanks to SebMoss for sharing this.

Update 2: The advert appears to have been removed from the site.

Update 3: USA Today have a preview of Kinect that went live half an hour ago, repeatedly referring to the peripheral as Kinect multiple times. Alex has the full story here.

  1. People should remember that the whole ‘Slim’ aspect was something the press labelled it with, as that’s what the PS2 and PS3 got rebranded as in hardware updates and redesigns. There was never any real suggestion it would be slimmed down, it’s just a hardware redesign and update to go with Natal/Wave/Kinect.

    • Just to be pedantic, the PS3 was never officially called the “slim”. Only the PS2 and the PSP 2000 got that honour ;)

  2. That is not slim… but it looks sleek.

  3. I’m not sure if it’s just the angle the image is at, but it doesn’t look like it would lie flat.

    • Touche – that what I just meant below. Must of posted the same time

  4. Seeming they normally use a real pic the perspective looks way too exaggerated, but you never know. Then again is this is real, it’d look pretty horrible in a horizontal position

  5. To everyone saying it doesn’t look slim, check the size of the disc drawer, puts it into perspective… It’s a lot smaller all round, to me.

Also I like the Kinect name – Connecting with your console kinetically. Clever.

    • Ah, yes. They’ve kept the proportions the same but it’s just been shrunk down. Perhaps it’ll be called the Xbox 360 Hot Wash – where everything’s been shrunken down a bit.

  6. Doesn’t look at all slim!
But I do think it looks way cooler than the last one.
It’s edges make it look.. edgy.
It looks like a more badass version of the original, which is strange considering they want it to be more family friendly nowadays.

  7. The more I look at it, the uglier it seems. Imagine someone came up with that design for an apple console, they’d be sacked immediately – no questions asks! :)

  8. Looks as though someone’s started to do custom mods on the standard thing, bet he’s now thinking ‘cha-ching’

  9. Doesn’t matter how they shape it, there just aren’t any great games to warrant a purchase…especially since I can pick up the “exclusives” on PC.

  10. I like the look of it. Probably still wont buy one though one console is enough I think.
