Fl0w, Flower, Journey

fl0w was a cute introduction to the PSN Store back at its inception, and Flower was a stunning example of what’s possible with digital downloads.  But Journey, thatgamecompany’s latest, looks to go one step further in pushing the boundaries of gaming ideas.

Journey, according to the press release issued, continues its tradition of delivering simple gameplay and accessible controls, but attempts to get players to experience “emotional chords” still uncommon in video games.

This, then, is thatgamecompany’s vision of what Sony are calling an “online adventure experience” with the player walking, gliding and flying through the wonderful looking landscape seen in the shots below, exploring the world with other players, strangers.

“By traveling together, they can re-shape the experience,” concludes the PR, “creating authentic moments they will remember and discuss with others.”  Journey promises dynamic sand and cloth effects too, for that whimsical, dusty look.  Sounds wonderful.

Thanks, CJ.

  1. Sounds interesting. I’ve not tried FlOw yet, but enjoyed Flower so will be keen to see how this turns out.

  2. This reminds me of what I imagine Shadow of Colossus to be like!

  4. Looks interesting, i can see myself getting this as i loved the others.

  5. Flower was brilliant, so I’ve every faith in TGC to produce something special again.

  6. I’m really hoping this will be awesome, but it looks quite sparse, and I’m curious as to what sort of narratives this will produce.

to get over the glaring chat problem they could have simple pre selected options, like Abe’s Exodus, follow me, wait, i’m sorry, laugh, and the like.
you could “speak” by holding a button to bring up a disk of those options and pushing the stick in the right direction (the last game i played that had this sort of idea was freedom fighters)

as i say, really hoping for this to be amazing as i believe this is the last game TGC is obligated to produce exclusive for PSN

  7. havent played any of thier past games but have been meaning to get to them they look like their getting better and better though

  8. Bizarrely, my favourite image is the first one, despite it being almost empty. I’m interested in the controls (Move? Sixaxis Tilt? Analogue sticks?) and the online as well, I can see the online component being either the thing that truly makes the game or a really annoying feature, I have every faith in TGC though that they will make an outstanding game, even if the multiplayer isn’t great.

  9. I was alittle late to the PS3 party, finally got a slim a few months backa nd the first thing i did was download fl0w adn fl0wer, can’t wait for this. Always a joy to just…look at.
