Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe Online, the forthcoming PlayStation and PC based MMO, has been given a price. Ryan C. Peters, Public Relations chappy for SOE, issued a short statement regarding the pricing:
“The revenue model will be subscription based, with a monthly fee of $14.99 per month. DC Universe Online will also support micro-transactions.”
I suspect the micro transactions will be for costumes, so if you want a particularly snazzy cape you may have to pay an extra buck or two. DC Universe will be the first PlayStation 3 MMO and is scheduled to arrive later this year. Why not check out the recent E3 trailer.

I really don’t understand the sudden outcry at the charges for DCUO, it is literally identicle to every other MMO on the market. Currently I play Star Trek Online, it’s £8.99 a month and the initial purchase was £29.99. The micro transactions are all for cosmetic items in the game, nothing that gives players a boost.
Personally its been priced exactly as expected and as I would prefer to play an MMO on my console (as I’m a console gamer) I will no doubt cancel my Star Trek Sub.
Can’t wait! :)

Stupid price for a title that I really can’t see being all that much “more” than the decidedly average City of Heroes. I really can’t see this being successful to be honest.
From what I’ve seen there’s not enough to keep people hooked at £10-15 a month so the subs will die off fast and if they try to recoup their costs by releasing at full price, many will be put off by the fact that they then have to “sub up” each month.
FFXIV and Dust 514 then as the great hopes for a PS3 MMO then.

Oh and great news the Tories just shafted the games industries tax break – marvellous.

i wanted to try this game but for that price no way

if it’s something like 8 or 9 quid then that’s not too bad.
but you know, i’m really starting to hate the word microtransactions, seems like too many devs these dayus are spending too much time working on little bits of content they can sell separately instead of concentrating on the main game first.

Hmm something tells me this game will be worth that subscription. The zones are pretty big and detailed.

Has he been speaking with Kotic regarding pricing? Is he serious? 14.99 a month? I guess super hero’s lycra suits cost more to maintain these days. Dam recession!
