Remember this story from Monday? The one about GT5 having stunt arenas, karting and sharing your own tracks, coming straight from the horse’s (well, Yoshida’s) mouth? Well, it seems like Gran Turismo creator Kaz Yamauchi isn’t happy about the news, and in a series of Tweets claims that the information shouldn’t have been revealed yet, and blames SCEE’s marketing department for the ‘leaks’.
“There’s a lot of confusing news leaking out of the UK,” he said, re-iterating that he “didn’t promise anything at E3”.
Even the most cynical would struggle to call anything on PlayStation.com a ‘leak’ but it does appear that Yamauchi wanted to reveal the new features himself. Translations are tricky, but he’s referring to the information and the way it ‘got out’ as “chaos”. “The story has been made by SCEE’s marketing department and I fail to understand why they would do that,” one translation reads.
One translation of another Tweet, from GT Planet’s Shirakawa Akira reads “Mr. Yoshida can speak about PlayStation in general,” Yamauchi continues, “but regarding information on individual games, as he doesn’t know the details, we asked that we would’ve liked him to report news upon first confirming the information from the various developers in charge. However, it appears he didn’t.”

So “leaks” and “complaints” are the new viral marketing? Or did I miss something?

Wait… custom tracks and go-karts were the leak? I thought the fact GT5 actually existed was the leak.

He’s disappointed about all the leaks….
We’re disappointed about all the delays.

Ah who cares! Track creation and kart racing will be there, and that’s all that matters =) Tough luck Kaz.

There’s a lot of hate here; yes the game’s been delayed, a lot, but for good reason – when it comes out it’s going to be spectacular. I feel bad for Kaz; this game’s his baby, his project, and I imagine he was really looking forward to revealing that information at Gamescom. He’ll laugh it off in time, but the dude’s putting blood sweat and tears into making the best racing game ever, and deserves respect.

I agree. I don’t think I could ever put that much effort into any undertaking. This could be the game he will be remembered for.

The thing is he always trys too hard. So now we got damage models. Sweet, but do we need stunt circuits to look at them? I don’t think so. This is something they could release after the game was released. If I want to watch cars crash with cool damage models I’m still going to play Burnout…

At the moment we don’t know what we’re getting in the game; yes they could have released ‘stunt arenas’ afterwards as DLC or a patch, but if he’d planned for them since the beginning this would never happen.
For all we know, the stunt arenas might be like this:

I’ve come round to considering Kaz/GT5 as an awesome parent working abroad, to earn enough to spring the best christmas ever on his kid. Just keep waiting, chances are you won’t be complaining when the game hits :)

@Pete_UK: I certainly hope so. I bought my PS3 way back in November 2007 just to be able to play GT5…. and I’m still waiting. Prologue was what… 2 years ago? Since then, there was just the advertising gimmick featuring the Indianapolis track. I don’t think this is the way longtime fans should be treated (I’ve bought and played every major version of GT since version 1).

You’ve got to feel for Kaz though, it is his baby and he has been promising fans this game for ages and would want to be the one to give us the good news himself about all the features that may or may not come in the final game and he must feel hard done by SCE especially with the possibility that some of the delay seems to lay on their doorstep!
