Is This GT5’s Stunt Driving?

Stunt arenas and karting, eh? Well, given the physics heavy nature of Gran Turismo, stunt mode is hardly likely to be jumping over buses and dodging rings of fire – no, we reckon we’ll be seeing Gymkhana, the sort of hardcore drifting and ‘stunt’ driving favoured by the likes of Ken Block in which drivers pull off ridiculously long slides, spins and parking maneuvers.

Of course, this is just our assumption, but given the structured gymkhana scene in Japan (and a gymkhana track in Gran Turismo 4) it’s certainly the most likely.  And if it’s not this, then I’d still bet my hat it’s not going to be anything like Joe Danger.  Shame, really, I’d love to plunge a 600hp Japanese sportscar into a pool of piranhas but it’s not going to happen.

  1. A few ramps would be nice all the same .. *sigh*

  2. Oh, that’s a shame. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Rush 2049 ;)

It would have been nice to have something like this is Dirt 2!! Rather than an endless supply of crap rallycross tracks.

Anyway, this would be awesome! Can’t wait :D

  3. This is what I thought they meant when they spoke of stunt driving as I don’t know how else they can incorporate it into the game.

    • Maybe they’re taking more from TopGear than the test track. Racing with caravans on the back would be mental!

  4. Looks amazing. I so hope that’s what the stunt arena will be like in GT5. :D

  5. The location of that video reminds me of Docks in Split/Second – anyone else with me? It backs it up even more with the explosion when he goes under the truck. =]

  6. From the official site (http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5247p4.html):
“In a real race a car may roll over under unexpected events such as during a violent crash, when bumps on the road are hit at very high speeds, *or if a car’s orientation is not right during a jump.*”

I’d say that’s a pretty strong implication that there’ll be ramps.

    • Not really. Rally stages have ‘jumps’ caused by going very fast over large undulations in the surface. In fact, even Nurburgring will provide some air if you overcook certain sections.

  7. thats how you drive wow.

  8. Ken Block is an amazing driver, very talented.

  9. Cannae wait! :)
