Speaking to GamesIndustry, Capcom’s European COO David Reeves says he thinks the industry could see the next generation of consoles – the PS4 and the Xbox 3 – in two to three years. The man, who was responsible for the PlayStation Launch in Europe suggested that “all the first-parties have got to be working on something.”
“That’s the problem. You can be waiting a few extra months to implement something, but you’ve got to set a date to go with a certain chip at a certain point otherwise you’re going to miss the key milestones.”
Reeves also confirmed that Capcom will be working on both Kinect and Move titles, as well as embracing 3D. “We’re working with Microsoft and with Sony on both sides,” he said, “and trying to match up the IPs we have with what the first-parties want.”
“It’s not a forced fit. In some ways it’s quite a natural way of progressing. Capcom is definitely going to embrace it and just as the first-parties are doing, we see it as another blip before we come into the next cycle. 3D gaming is the same. Anything they can add to revive and pique interest in the games until we have another clash of the titans in two years time.”

Wow so much awesome news today!

is it just me or is this the first time that I don’t want the next gen console to come along. Usually I can’t wait to see what the next big machine is, but I’m actually completely happy with the quality of games coming out at the moment.

Not just you. At the moment there is an avalanche of amazing titles and we still haven’t seen everything the PS3 can do, without even considering the extras like 3D and Move.

Lots of life left in this gen :-)
Fast forward two or three years though and Im sure I’ll be eagerly awaiting news of PS4

Not a chance.

I for one will be holding off if it is, so many great games to play this gen yet ……….. arggh, who am I kidding I know I’ll get one a launch :)
One thing Sony could do and thats have a better unified PSN setup. Not leaving it to developers to sort out but like MS give them the tools to do it.

Yeah, MS are very good at making tools available

Like Steve Ballmer?

I won’t be an early adopter next time around, I’ll probably wait until a redesigned SKU comes outs and its about half the launch price.
Gaming for me is all about the playability not the resolution, sometimes added realism saps away the fun aspect anyway

When I think what I paid for my PS3 I still wince slightly and I want to say that I will avoid early adopting next time, but if I am honest, I love having the latest and greatest tech and, don’t tell Sony, but I’ll probably buy it whenever they launch the next gen.
.
Is this what it is like to be an Apple customer?
ericzap
Apple has boiled mindless consumerism down to a science.

Thank Christ Apple don’t make consoles

I can’t see a PS4 being necessary for some time yet, as the PS3 seems to be keeping step with changing technology trends inside it’s lifetime in a way I’ve never seen any games console do before without the need for overpriced add ons of some description.
I’m happy enough with sticking with the PS3 for a few more years I think.

What this tells me is that when this guy was still working for Sony they weren’t even looking at PS4. So even if they were to start looking at it now then it could be a couple of years or so before Sony confirm it.
