We’ve known about head tracking in Gran Turismo 5 since last August, but this is the first time we’ve seen it in the flesh, so to speak. Equipped with nothing additional than an Eye-toy camera, Gran Turismo 5 appears to quite happily spin the internal view as quickly as you turn your head.
It does seem a little exagerated, but it’s pretty nippy at detecting your movement and I’m assuming if it’s used properly – you know, like looking for the apex rather than shaking your head furiously – it could be quite a neat little addition to the game.
Shame it’s only left and right though, you don’t appear to be able to look up and down.

Looks alright, you can probably calibrate it so you dont need to move your head as much.

It looks how I thought it would be; A cool original feature but probably only used to show off/try it out. I can’t imagine it being massively useful especially since, like the guy in the vid, I usually use the bumper view so I can see as much of the road as possible.

Oh my god! First time I’ve looked at the clip. That’s a shocking amount of angle he has to turn his head. Crashes galore! Pffft! Useless, seriously useless.

Hmm …
1 – Looks like you can still play the game like you’re in a bumper car and ricochet off cars/scenery without any side-effects
2 – Looks like the AI is the same old “this is the racing line so this is where I drive unless out push me out the way … at which point I’ll push against you until I can rejoin the racing line. Absolutely zero “intelligence” in the AI.
You’d have thought they would have fixed that in this iteration. Racing against non-agress, non-reactive, brainless opposition has always been one of the major flaws of the game
