GTA: Vice City Revving Up For PSN?

Something’s cooking down south Grand Theft Auto related. Of course, this could be nothing (the “guess-what-a-rating-means” game a notoriously sketchy practice), but Australia’s infamously prudish classification board are re-rating Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

As Kotaku correctly states, despite the aforementioned reluctance of Australia to embrace adult games, Vice City is already available Down Under, so it’s not like this is just an old game finally seeing the light of Australia’s searing sun. Also note how the version is referred to as “Modified.”

With GTAV surely in development in some deep, furtive Rockstar lair, it’s not outlandish to think that last-generation GTA games could find themselves on the likes of the PSN or XBL on the run up to an eventual release of a new title as a way of driving up interest. (Like it needed it.) Could this also be a HDing of GTA’s seminal neon-bathed outing?

As already mentioned, this could be a whole load of hooey. It does give you the opportunity to argue over which game was the best in the GTA series so far, however. Off you go.

UPDATE: Rumour smash! Rockstar have confirmed to VG247 that this classification is simply to do with PC back-catalog shenanigans. Stand down, people.

  1. Vice city was the best, a HD version with trophies would be incredible. My money is ready!!!!

  2. I never finished Vice City. After playing GTAIV, I hooked up my PS2 and tried playing VC again. Could not get into it at all.
So, I’m gonna step on a few toes and say that I hope it’s not GTA:VC-HD, but rather some lighter top-view PSN game, or an addon to GTAIV of sorts.

  3. im a San Andreas man myself

  4. I preferred GTA3 overall but this was an incredibly close 2nd.
However, Im not one for going back and playing games I enjoyed years ago. The games were amazing for they’re time and in that time they should stay. I’ve been disappointed by misplaced nostalgia too many times.

    • their not they’re, goddamn grammar brendan sort it out you nincompoop

  5. This will be awesome, but a HD verson of this and San Andreas would be even more brilliant.

  6. San Andreas still a fav… It had everything.

  7. does this mean there will be a release of a ps2 emulator?

  8. No, it is not coming to PSN. It could later, but this reclassification is for Steam and Mac OSX.
