OK, we’re picking up on a vibe that some people have been less than impressed with the first couple of months’ content associated with Sony’s PlayStation Plus program. Games we all have (or don’t want), Europe not getting as much content as our US brethren, hell, even peer pressure reared its ugly head in the comments section of this particular post.
Well, time to buckle down the hatches, as the Official EU blog has just updated what’s coming in September for us (un)lucky Plusites. Brace yourself, here comes the shit-storm (maybe – I’m actually quite happy as I have virtually none of this content. But, hey, that’s just me.)
- Sam and Max: Devil’s Playground (entire season)
- Vector Tower Defense
- Echoes
- Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
- Warhawk (with exclusive 50% discount for Plus members on purchase)
- Inferno Pool
- LBP: Ico and Shadow of Colossus costume pack – 50%
- Metal Gear Solid (PSOne) – 50%
- Warhawk – 20%
- Pixel Junk Shooter – 20%
- Exclusive UFC Undisputed 2010 DLC
- Dynamic themes: Exclusive PlayStation Move theme
- Exclusive ‘Fish Tank’ theme
- Premium avatars: Eye Pet Blue Goalie Avatar
- Eye Pet DJ Avatar
But that’s not all! Perhaps following the American route, expect some special treats mid-month. James Thorpe over on the blog states:
We’ve listened to your feedback on here so, rest assured, this is not all that will be available each month; look out for some more exclusive, surprise treats coming to Plus in August and September.
There. Better? No? Still unhappy? Ah well, they’ve got another nine months to make you happy. Has to happen sometime, right?
Update: Some people are questioning what the hell is going on with the Warhawk offers above. It looks like a typo has sneaked in and that 20% in the Exclusive Discounts section should match the 50% in the Trial area. This is still unconfirmed we should add though the blog’s James is looking into it. Finally, a Mafia II demo will be available to PlayStation Plus users 24 hours early on August 10th. It’s not much but hey – it’s better than a dead fish in your bed.

Sam & Max is cool, but the rest is underwhelming. As you’d come to expect from PSN+.
DrNate86
Yet another fantastic line-up, and yet another fantastic line-up where I already own most of it. Sigh. My own fault for being impatient I guess, though it is good to see the free games are getting more current. If I stop buying stuff now, then next year I should be laughing!
Cort
Special treats? From SCEE? That’s be more Fat Princess avatars then.
FriendlyFiend
Very pleased with this. It looks an awful lot better. Oddworld and Sam&Max? Excellent!
Addam
I’m just not going to buy anything from the Store anymore until it comes up in Plus. I’m really not happy about seeing a lot of the stuff I’ve already bought being offered to me for free a few months down the line. Sort it out SCEE.
djhsecondnature
Well tough. That’s the way media works. It comes out, after a few months it drops in price.

All Sony seems to have done is convert early adopter (those who probably spend the most money with them) in to wait n’ see-ers
*Slow hand clap* for business brains behind that one
bunimomike
None of if it free, Adam (meant nicely) :-)
Most of the PSN sales are probably during the first month of any release (game, theme, etc) and then they go into the PS+ bin so subscribers can benefit and save some pennies.
The lesson is that we either pay through the nose to have it first or we subscribe.
Addam
Yeah, I appreciate what both of you are saying, but having signed up and paid £40 for a product offering me discounts and “free” content, it would be nice if it wasn’t mostly things I have already bought and paid for.
As I said initially – lesson learned – I won’t buy anything from the store from this point on unless it comes up in PS+.
djhsecondnature
Well… you knew what the first two months were so that’s your fault. It’s also hard to please everyone. I haven’t had most of the content.
cc_star
You’re right Addam, just don’t buy anything and PS+ will come good over the year for you.
I am however buying whatever Q-Games (PixelJunk) & ThatGameCompany make and I don’t care if it was offered free, even the next day.
Those two companies have earned the right for me to supply them with money.
jikomanzoku
They most certainly have.
DrNate86
I have the same problem, but you can’t really blame SCEE! They can’t release new stuff for free, we just need to stop buying stuff and wait a few months!
Addam
Unfortunately I didn’t see August’s content, but I accept your point. I’m just hoping future updates will be improved (possibly with more exclusive or early-release content).
Kennykazey
I’m pleased, Oddworld and fishtank theme is enough to make me interested
bunimomike
I kid you not, I would pay Sony £30 a year if I could have:
• the three latest game saves of any game backed-up online
• pushed updates to games and firmware
• the ability to purchase items on the store from my PC like Xbox users have been doing for god knows how long
• cross game chat for everyone who wants it. I don’t but it’s worth the money to stop them asking! :-)
No game discounts… just an incredible service. I would pay for that. I’m possibly on my own here. *looks around* Yep.

No I’m with you,
The lack of Web Interface for the PSN Store (and maybe PSN messaging) is no longer baffling and just makes Sony look chumps
Addam
Agreed.
JoshHood
Agreed.
Addam
No, I agree. Though I really don’t see why these things can’t be included as standard.
DrNate86
It would be nice if they offered a 20% discount on everything if you are a member, or gave you a set number of free downloads you could redeem on anything you wanted. That way it avoids the problem of already owning what they are offering and opens it up to more customers. Game saves backed up online would be a godsend as well.
Addam
Although I’d love that too, I guess there’d be the issue of agreeing discounts and what not with the owners of the content stopping them just dishing things out to be used on just anything.
cc_star
Good idea…
One Full PSN download a month, 2 Minis & PSOne Classic
djhsecondnature
It’s a great idea but probably not feasible, what with pricing differences, etc.
Klart
Will be getting:
Sam and Max: Devil’s Playground (entire season)
Vector Tower Defense
Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
Metal Gear Solid (PSOne) – 50%
Exclusive ‘Fish Tank’ theme
Nice month.
Kronik76
Just out of interest, is your first name Raas? ;-)
I kid, I kid, no offense intended :-)

After much self-deliberation and both singing the praises of the value packed into the PS+ and then worrying about having to hold off buying content in case it’s included free the following month.
I have taken the plunge and bought PS+.
In doing so I’ve decided not to buy any more PSN Games, except for those that I simply must have which is the likes of ThatGameCompany’s Journey & whatever else Q-Games bring to the to the PSN through PixelJunk or whatever.
Buying it today I’m going to have access to July & August’s content in the space of two days and its pretty much paid for itself, leaving me the next 10 months content get the upper hand on the deal.
DrNate86
I think I am going to do the same. Not this month though, I am going to stop buying stuff now, hold off for a few months and then get PS+ when they have a month where I don’t have much of what they are offering. Then just get stuff from PS+, instead of buying it new.
Kevling
Exactly what I did last night CC – the list for month 1 and 2 left me unimpressed, but if September is a sign of what is to come, it should work out very nicely indeed.
I’m glad Sony announced this the day before month 1 expired, they could have very easily waited until tomorrow to announce it ;)
Mike
Another good batch for me. And the early Mafia 2 demo is a bonus :D
