Mass Effect 2, which grabbed a 10/10 review here on TheSixthAxis, has always been locked to the Xbox 360 and PC. However, rumours are flying around this morning (starting here) which claim that a PS3 version of the series is due to be announced today.
Discussion on NeoGAF seems to suggest that at least one person knows of the game, which looks like it’ll have a new title (beginning with ‘G’ and possibly ‘Genesis’) but at the moment is understandably keeping tight lipped.
We’re hoping that whatever this turns out to be, if indeed there’s any truth to the rumours, will include the first Mass Effect game alongside the sequel, with hopefully some DLC thrown in for good measure. It’ll also probably be multiformat.
Scrawl picked up on the rumours earlier, but look out for EA’s conference later (at 4pm CET) and we’ll be at Sony’s (at 6) so we’ll report back as soon as we can if anything’s mentioned during that particular presser. If not, well, just get it for the 360, it’s great.

Am I going to upset some people if I ask if this is likely to be a 360 port – which means poor version or is there the slightest chance that it’ll be done properly and possibly even improved as it should be with the time difference since its release.

A weak port of a bloody good game could still be worth investment. Dragon Age Origins was apparently better on other platforms but I’m still enjoying it.

360 got the port of pc so if it appears on ps3, it may also be a pc port.
i doubt mass effect will ever come to ps3, same with gears of war.
atleast next gen 3rd party devs wont make stupid exclusivity decisions which will cost them million (in cash and fanbase) in the long run.

Gears of War is a differnt case.
The GoW series has been soley published by MS and MS have footed the bills (or atleast most of the bills) for GoW development. While i don’t think they own the Gears IP, theyev certainly invested a lot into it and would have some say in it appearing on another console.
This isn’t the case with ME. ME1 was published by MS for 360, but by EA for PC, and EA published ME2 for both 360 and PC. ME is owned by EA and could (and more than likley will) appear on PS3.
Here’s to hoping that 3rd party exclusives become a thing of the past.

Hopefully this is true and EA can shift Left 4 Dead over to PS3 too. Wouldn’t be much reason to go out and buy a 360 for me save for maybe playing Gears.
