Listings have appeared on two Swedish online retailers this week for Far Cry 3, in both regular and collector’s editions. Very little is currently known about the game, and it has yet to even be officially announced but with these listings appearing – both with official-looking logos, and one with what looks like Ubisoft-provided placeholder art – it doesn’t look like we’ll be waiting too long for a confirmation of the game’s existence.

Back in November last year, a Ubisoft scriptwriter revealed that the game was in production, and looked “pretty exciting”. Before even shipping Far Cry 2 in 2008,  narrative designer Patrick Redding said that “there are still things we want to do with the African setting, and I think it’s safe to say we’ll continue to explore it,” making it likely that the next entry in the franchise would return to Africa. The styling of the FC3 placeholder art listed on Webhallen (posted above) also suggests that fire would return as a major gameplay element.
The listings indicate that the game is coming to PS3, 360 and PC, although it is marked for a 2010 release, which is pretty unlikely. Far Cry 2 was released to mixed reviews, but clearly sold well enough for Ubisoft to approve a sequel. So what would you like to see in a new Far Cry game?

felt it was a game with huge potential which without the potential realised ended up a poor game, however the thought of a 3rd reaching it’s potential excites me.
Did Ubisoft talk about using online codes for 2nd hand games? If so I won’t be going anywhere near this as the problems with the first were enough not to warrant purchasing new for the 3rd.

I still have Far Cry 2, for my limited playing time i’ve found it to be too long. It’s open world meant for me the time spent driving around and restarting missions was time wasted.
